OK I know this subject has been debated to death on who's is best, but I still have one question:

Can the different types be mixed together? I know the Merc Performance Plus is a mixture of synthetic and regular TCW III, so can Penzoil Synthetic and Merc be mixed with each other and/or with Koltz and/or Amsoil? and still provide adequate lubrication?

Just want to know what you all think, thanks, Scott

I think there was fear of a jelling or separation problem. I have mixed Synergyn and Pennzoil together with no problems.

With price of parts being so high I wouldn't even try.

I've never mixed them...like 1/2 and 1/2. not sure what you mean.

But I have mixed them like one fill up to the next, and there will be five gallons or so still in the tank.

I've switched from merc to penn. tcw3 to texaco tcw3 to penn 100%syn to exxon tcw3to penn syn blend back and forth all the time for 13 years. in outboards as well as pwc with no problems.

I always buy whatever's on sale for my 200 and my pwc's.
I only use 100% syn in my STV because I run it at 9200. 9200 only:D

By definition of the rating TCW3, they are completey compatible for mixing with each other. Any TCW3 can be mixed with any other TCW3. Don't know about mixing different ratings.

I think heath best describes the situation I had questions about, making a switch and refueling with a little left in the tank.

I would never try to mix one oil with the next just for the sake of mixing, or just try to get off cheap and throw some "whatever oil" in there but I am curious about what to do when you are making a switch. Or when you are in a situation where your favorite oil is not longer available (I have read alot of members use the Penzoil from Wally World and now they no longer carry it)

I have also read a couple of posts where engine bulders recommend using tcw3 for break in and then switching to full synthetic and several poeple have admitted changing from one "brand" to another. This is what prompted my question, because at one time or another any give tank will have a little of the old mix in it when you add the new.

So is there any problems with mixing and if you are in that situation should you just add a little extra of the new oil to make sure you are lubricated??

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about swithing from tank to tank.

I've had a 200 for 13 years that has gone back and forth from oil to oil. I was selling the boat last year so I pulled the heads to look at the cylinder walls, they were like glass, 130 on all 6. The guy who bought my boat wanted a 2.4 BP I had so I kept the old 200. Still going strong.

Like I said I switch from syn. to tcw3 as well from tank to tank with no problems. The sea doo's have rotary valves which have alot of surface to surface contact, and they turn around 7000. I'll go back and forth between 100% syn./ penn. syn. blend/and tcw3.

LOL, I thought when you'll said wally world, you were just using a figure of speach for some cheesy oil. You know like wally world from the movie vacation. I guess wally world is like a wal-mart up north.

As far as mixing extra, what ratio are you mixing now.

BTW, wal-mart sells the pennzoil syn. blend in a 2 1/2 gallon jug for 18.84. that's about 7.50 a gallon.

Yea I meant wall-mart, and I love the "vacation" movies in fact my wife got me the christmas one on DVD this year, Eddie is my hero!! "it's and RRR VVV Clark" :D LOL

Anyway, I am still breaking in my 280 (8 hours so far) with Merc performance plus @ 32-1, the owners manual says 40-1 which I will probably go to in a while. My local merc dealer is giving me a pretty good deal if I pre-order it (he dosen't really want to stock it) and buy at least 5 gallons at a time, so I will probably continuing using the merc oil for a while, but I want to look at the other options may be for the future, thanks for all your input, Scott

O.K. I feel like a dumb ass now.

with a 280 I'd keep mixin 32:1 whatever you use, even 100% syn. or mix 100:1 amsoil 64:1.

I agree....Eddie rocks.
