2.4 EFI BP Initial Timing

In the service manual it says that the initial timing is between 2 and 4 degrees atdc. Why is this? It seems that the motor would make a lot more power if the initial timing were higher.

Initial timing is just what you have at idle. How much power are you looking for at idle? :p

26* is max timing on a 2.4 BP.

Keith, what I meant to say was, would the motor run better when idling arround and would it start easier.

I actually found that mine idled smoother at about 0*. Retarding it seemed to help.
