What would cause the jackplate to slowly go down by itself? I checked the fluid and it looked like new. I bled the air out of the line and it still drops. Can you get replacement parts or is it shot?

How old is it? Which style is it? Is the electric motor on the outside or inside the brackets? I've had both.

No leaks right? Did you switch to ATF or stick w/ hydraulic fluid? I like ATF b/c pink/milky is easy to see that there is a leak.

The sweeper ring has gone bad on mine before, the old style that is. The new one, well, its new.

the plate has to be atleast 10 years old. The motor is on the outside. i can't see any leaks. I have never done anything with the fluid so I am not sure what is in it. It looks alot like trim fluid. What is the sweeper seel and where did you get a replacement? Thanks for replying.

I contacted them, and that's why I eventually got a new one. They couldn't beat Overton's price, though.

I hope I'm remebering this correctly, its been years. At the base of the ram should be a teflon seal. I think that's the part I replaced.

I hope this helps. I wish I could be more exact, but I can't remember.

Call CMC. Need their number? I'll check my booklet, if you do.

I must have been posting while yours came through. Thanks for the information. Do you carry parts or only sell new jackplate?

well I just got the bad news from CMC. My pump was made by Prestolite which went out of business about 9 yrs ago and parts are not available. I would need to purchase a conversion kit from CMC that includes the pump , lines, motor etc. for $438.00 or I can trade my jackplate in along with $449.00 for a new one. Any suggestions?

I have no idea if it works or not. It has the pump on the side.
If you're interested, I'll check it out.

Can you buy a new jackplate for that?

How much is a new hydraulic jackplate? It doesn't have to be a CMC but they are probably the cheapest.

May be interested if the pump is good.

you might try to fix the old motor if thats the problem.. u cant get brushes for the old prescotlites.. but some 1/4" square( if i remember right) trolling motor brushes and springs will fit.. repaired several older prescolite pump motors that way

I know absolutely nothing about a CMC hyd jack plate put know a little about hydraulics. If you have the tools and know how, pull the thing apart and check it out. Sounds like the motor is working fine if it's going up and down. Before spending $500, take the cylinder apart, have a local hydraulics shop match up the packings and repack it, Could just be leaking by. Before doing that aircheck the spools/check valves that control the direction of flow and hold it in position. If they're bad/leaking by and there are no parts to be had, then spend the $500.

If the motor works, you can probably find the seals and/or packings you need if you look around a bit. If that doesn't work, we can do a Detwiler 6" hydraulic (HYD600) for $685 + $35 shipping. We can do a CMC for $10 more ($695), plus whatever the shipping is. So it sounds like the CMC trade-in deal isn't too bad, if it comes to that.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, the motor works fine and the jack goes up and down great. It just drops by itself gradually. It drops about an inch an hour.
