i fish saltwater tournanments in s. w fl. and am currently running a 2.5 260 on my boat. i do not have the fuel capacity to fish all day and get back to the weigh-in. the rules state i can't carry extra fuel and any fuel purchased must be from a retail facility open to the public. the problem is none of the marina's down here have 93 octane gas they just have 89 octane. do any of you guys know of a reliable way to boost the octane up to 92-93? and also where i might could order it? thanks for your help.

Klotz Lubricants makes an excellent Octane Booster as well as a race gas concentrate which comes in 5 gallon cans. You can gain about 4 points with the booster and about 6 or 7 with the concentrate.

Any of the 'real' auto parts stores sell octane boosters.

Not K-Mart, or Chiefs, but go to a hard parts jobber like NAPA, or where the kids go for hot rod parts-------and they are in stock.

They'll have it.

I forget exactly what its called, but look for the can with the flames painted on it.

Next thing,
If there is a hobby shop close to ya, model airplane fuel is sold to the public.

Go sparingly,, Nitro Methane has no sense of humor. .

..You might could use that for a fuel additive to get ya over to and on top of a fish that splashed the surface at the edge of the horizon,,, in 20 seconds or less.

I wish you well in them tournaments.........

there are worse jobs ya know........

Model fuel is made from Methanol and can be purchased with different percentages of Nitro Methane which WILL NOT mix with gasoline. It is designed to blend with methanol and is not stable in gasoline.

A couple things to know. When octane boosters say they raise octane 4 points. This means it takes your fuel octane from 89 to 89.4 it DOESNT take it from 89 to 93 as their marketing would lead you to believe.

If the rules state you can't carry fuel, they may disqualify you for carrying a gallon of fuel additive. If this is something you do alot, you may want to consider going to thicker head gasket and backing your timing down 2 degrees so your engine can run safetly on 89 octane.

Nitro would not be a good option. Not only would it be gray area on rules (carrying fuel) but it would cause your engine to run WAY too lean unless you convert to progamable ECU such as Mad EFI so you could richen fuel curves while running nitro tonic :)

Good luck

One other thing that nobody's mentioned that you need to be REAL cautious of with additives, both octane boosters and others. Some of em will mix with the gas but not with common 2 stroke oil. They had a demo thing in jars at Merc service school one time that showed premixed fuel that seperated with certain additives added to the fuel.

RACEMAN, I AM RUNNING A 2 CYCLE SYNTHETIC OIL CALLED COOLPOWER MADE BY MORGAN FUELS. I TALKED WITH THEM AND THEY DIDN'T MAKE ANYTHING TO TAKE THE OCTANE UP JUST DOWN. ASSUMING I WILL NOT BE TURNING THIS ENGINE OVER 6000 WOULD THE 89 OCTANE DO DAMAGE TO IT? ALSO LET ME CLARIFY THAT THIS SITUATION ONLY HAPPENS 2-3 DAYS A YEAR. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF IT WAS YOURS?

Cool Power by Morgan fuels is what I run in my R/C helicopters.
Its Methanol with Nitro Mix (I run 40% nitro)

Wouldnt recommend it for a boat.

Retail facility open to the public.
wouldn't that include a gas station? or does it have to be a marina?
Your original tank of fuel in the boat when you start is 93 from a gas station? but they wont let you bring additional fuel from the same gas station?

runwme, it is their 2 cycle gold with castor. i hope it is alright. there are several people running it down here in their boats and have not had any problems. the guy i bought the boat from was running it so that what i stayed with. heath, i can not pull the boat out of the water on tournament day after we check in.

heath, it will be 93 octane from a gas station before we check in. but the rules also state that we can't carry any fuel in other than oem installed fuel tanks

what's your compression.
I would probably do like RUNWME said, put a thicker head gasket on.
OR...
have you talked to some of your tournament competitors with similar motors...maybe if enough of you talked to some of the marinas one of them may decide to carry 93. If there was enough demand for it. Just a thought.

The fuel tank in your truck or car is OEM.
