In need of some expert opinions on my jetting for my transposed 1989 XR4. It has recently been overhauled (new .015 pistons, rings. seals and bearings. reeds and stuffers and 200hp tuner installed) During the overhaul some porting work was completed to 200 hp specs, the XR4 vertical front was kept and the carbs from a 175 hp chrome bore engine (WH34s were installed). The initial break is complete I have upped the main jetting to be fat. The normal main jets for 175 were (064 for cyl1,3.4,6) and 066 for cylinders 2 & 5. Currently I am running 070 and 072 in the mains, What are your thoughts, does the piston domes look normal or do I need to go a bit leaner, if so what cylinders appear too rich?
I have attached the images of all 6 Cylinders,
Cylinders 1,2,5,and 6 still seem a bit wet I am guessing, possibly go smaller?

Cylinders 3 and 4 are almost identical but the carbon domes are much dryer. Is the dryer carbon deposit on 3 and 4 indications of a bit too lean? our is this normal burn?

Ok guys give me your thoughts and suggestions, they are all very much encouraged and welcome!!!!!

I suppose you raised your exhaust ports a little
Are you running stock heads
You need to read your plugs after doing a hard pull shut down

Baker343, thanx for the response. Yes part of the porting done was to raise the exhaust height. I am presently running stock heads, 125 psi in all 6. I have included a couple of pictures but am not 100% positive they are with the jetting indicated on the pictures. My observation is they appear to be a chocolate brown in colour. and look fairly consistent in colour. Is this where I should be OR do I need to go a bit leaner to get more of a tan or lighter colour???? Your thoughts would be much appreciated!!!

I will in the next few days get another set of pics and post them up.

With stock compression I think your in the ballpark.
Plugs look happy.
You can always try 72's and 74's.
Leaner doesn't always mean meaner.

Ok I will get another run and confirm the current jetting and post some better plug pictures. If the plugs are in the ball park, now I know then where I need to be.(colour wise)

Thanks for all of the helpful comments! The expert advise is what makes this a great website.

Since you have the heads off, i would install the water diverters
With the NGK BR8-HS10 plugs you have a better color on the plugs

I think the diverters are only need when your running a 1 piece exhaust plate and a steel sleeve block. Stock exhaust plate with poppet works great

With the diverters in you route the water around the cylinders
That is always a good idea
They installed them on the 280 and the 200 xs sst
But your choice
