Saw a good deal on a 235 evinrude, 1983 model year. I have a 1988 225 on my boat now. Wondering, is that 235 a crossflow? If so I'm assuming no gains to be had for me? I was wondering if it maybe had the good 2.7 heads that people swap onto the late 80s loopers like mine.

I think all the 235s were propshaft rated. According to the attached, OMC didn't change to propshaft rated until 1985506323506324506325506326506327

235 is crank rated and the looper is prop rated. The heads from the 235 will not fit your 88 looper.

My first V6 outboard was a '78 235 Evinrude on a 21' Checkmate split window bow rider. Really nice boat. Never had issues with that motor in the 2 years or so I had it.
