hello while replacing my stator i stripped 2 screws that hold it down instead of replacing the cap can i just get a litle thinner screw and run it through and bolt it with a lock nut . i figure its the same thing, but i want to make sure i wouldnt be making a mistake thanks jim

I did the same thing once, I used wood screws #10. Then I replaced them with helicoils. still holds together.

I have done this many times.. I have a tap that is just slightly larger and I retap and us a slightly larger screw.

I use heli coils and add a few more screws. I think you can put 7 screws in on the bearing carriers that are open for the trigger wires.

If you tap it to big then you cann't use the heli coil. Believe me I have tried it many different ways and the Heli coil is the best way. Or you can buy a new bearing carrier for the small price of 200 bucks.

well i didnt go with the tap. i just went out,and bought the heli coil set . so i drilled the 3 out put the coils in,and locktight the screws. i didnt have a tork wrench that read inch pounds so i just made them pretty tight with the allen wrench. im hoping they will hold. didnt want to strip the coils after all that.the screws went past the end tit on the heli coil( where the tool locks in when you put the coil in) is that ok ? i guess its ment to just be pushed out of the way if the screw goes all the way in right?. i just hope its ok thanks guys jim

Nope. That is called a tang. You are suppose to break it off and remove it after the installation. As long as the bolt tightened between the stator and the bearing retainer, you should be ok. You can tighten fasteners into those helicoils pretty tight. They are made out of stainless steel.
