I've got a drag with champ heads on it (36 cc) running a 39 lb regulator/box combo.

fuel pressure is correct at idle but when I get on the gas I've seen as low as 29 lbs and will come back up to about 34 lbs. Egt's never get above 1200. Could this be a bad regulator???

where do you have your fuel press. gauge hook-up at?Is it before your filter or after? If it is after it might be a dirty filter

Ken,

The hook up "T's" off the fuel feed right at the bottom of the rail. I have an aeromotive 10 micron filter attached 90 degrees of the fuel pump. I can change the filter in it but it is brand new.

Spoke to Gaffrig and they advised that using 1/4" feed to the gauge vs. 1/8" wouldn't make any difference in reading the pressure...any other thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Jamie

I have mine hookup just like yours pretty much. My pressure only drops maybe 2-3pounds for just a second and comes right back.how about your pick up what do you have

Ken,

Sorry, you've lost me (not hard to do). Pick up? In the tank?

hmmmmmmm.

The guy I bought the boat off of had a 2.4 on it before...I don't even know which pick up would be in the tank. I am running a water seperator before the pump with the fuel return back into the separator. A good friend is running the identical setup and his runs better than good.

I never even thought of the pick up in the tank and if there were different ones. Perhaps the problem?

may be try un hooking the vacum line on your regulator andblock off the nipple that the line goes on . then start it and see if the press. still drops if it don't then your regulator is bad

Some guys don't use a water seperator just a good filter like a Barrygrant that is how mine is set up and I have my return going back to the top of the tank with a hose barb.

James 2 things to check, I make sure that there is not a anti-siphon valve in the tank.
And check the pick-up in the tank, sometimes they get crap on them and reduce flow.

I might be over simplifying this, but when I forget to charge my battery before every second time out,(97 260)I get an instant reminder what I forgot, when my fuel pressure drops 5-8Lbs,Back to the dock for a battery swap!I,ve had the local parts house deliver to the dock.

Check the electricals. Like 2 scoops said and check the wiring to the pump. Bad or corroded connections can make the pump lose pressure.
Even though your pressure is coming up it's still low at 34lbs.
