80’s BlackMax powerhead’s

Recently picked up 2 (new) old stock 200 Powerheads to fit Serial# Range 6073191 and below. So 80/81 model years, part# from merc was 41280A81. The date code/manufacture date was in 1993. Does anyone know if these would be chrome bore still? Gotta assume since it’s a replacement/assembled unit it would be, but with materials/manufacturing process changes through the years, it has me thinking it’s different. Any insite would be great!

Those old 2.4's should be chrome bore but who knows with that 1993 build date. Yank a head?

i was told SEVERAL years ago that date stamp is actual BUILD (assembly) date.. not actually manufacture of a particular part (block and etc.)... reason for tha hand stamp date... true?.. dunno?.. bobby had at least one, maybe two first gen 2.0's come through his place with 90's "build dates" on 'em..

if thats tha case i'd say chrome...

My 2.4 200 has a build date of 96 and it's chrome (although some say the later ones are actually Nik). Doesn't matter to me, just didn't want steel to save the weight. Still had the crosshatch in it when I got it, been running it since 2006.

My 1990 2.4 still has chrome in four holes! :D

think tha high performance 2.4's went ta nic in late '89/early'90 maybe.. no comment on tha teeth thing............ mine anyway. :reddevil:
