Hello, I am looking for a drag prop for my STV, I have a powertech 26 yamaha copy, and a 28 ET copy (by Aquaholic) can't decide between a 24 yam or ET? what do you guys think, one more question, will the addition of a fin on the cavation plate keep the bow down on holeshot, thus helping the cavatition/slipping on take off??
thanks

For strictly Drag, the Yamaha would be my choice. It has a better hole shot than an ET. The Hydrofoil will help take off, but be careful not to get too big of one. I like the Allison style on my River Rocket.

The ET is a great prop once the boat gets on the surface. It drives very well, and tends to be more efficient on the top end. BUT, The only boats that seem to have a decent holeshot with them are the large cubic inch OMC's that have more torque down low than the Merc engines.
The Yamaha HP (what is known as the Drag ) prop is made of a poor quality metal that isn't even really Stainless Steel. But, this allows the prop blades to flex more under sudden load, giving the engine the ability to slip to a higher rpm and leave harder.
You need to think of the prop like the torque converter in an automatic transmision. In drag racing, you need a blade design that "flashes" the engine to a point in the power band where the engine makes real power, then slowly reduces slip as the boat works its way to the top of the water.
I know of no prop that will do this right out of the box, a good prop bender/guru that has experience bending props for outboard drag racing can get you and your set up in the ballbark.
I hope this helps.

Thanks, what about pitch? 24 or 22? I have a 2.5-260 with some mods, and a 130hp nitrox kit, (that I ran for the first time this past weekend, what a blast), propshaft about 3/4 above bottom...
Thanks Again
CHRIS
