ANY prop that has been thined and worked to be competitive in drag racing, will have more of a tendancy to crack than the stock unworked version. The Yamaha HP - especially the early version- are generally thinner props than most others. But I have several Yamahas that have been raced and repeatedly worked over several seasons without developing any cracks.
A race prop must be care for. Never trailer it on the boat. Small sticks and debris in the water can ding the edges, giving cracks a place to develop. Running in rough water can over flex the blades and crack them. Like any true racing part, working it to be competitive and the stresses of racing will lower the life expectancy of the part.
