guys eric just started making a bolt on alternator kit (280 style ) for the 16 amp stator engines (requires alien cowl). i havent talked to him yet but i went to the website to check it out. i might be putting my foot in my mouth but it looks like what the doctor ordered. my engines have the brackets cast into the block and i thought about drilling/tapping them and installing an altenator but didnt want to pump out the expense to have a special pulley made for my lightweight flywheel. of course im real concerned about h.p. loss as well , if its minor im in! i might be his first big sale!!! i went out today to shoot some footage of the 21 skater for you guys and i had a usual charging problem with one of my motors , since i have catch cans i use 2 fuel pumps per engine , plus the guages is killing my batteries , i hope to get some good answers to some questions about how much of a h.p. loss there might be carrying that extra load (especially on a drag motor) , theres a chance i might try/use this setup on my boat and see how it works , eric has gone the extra mile building unique parts for our outboard engines. check out his website at www.simonmotorsports.com. i have dealt with eric on several occasions buying/selling parts , he's a great guy and easy to deal with!

if this could work it would be a headache removed from my list of things "to do" to my boat. wish me luck!

So far what I have found with these alternators on my customers boats is VERY HAPPY CUSTOMERS.The motors idle better and run smoother. Alot of my customers have huge stereo's and modified motors. They kill the battery, then they drive back to the dock full throttle, low voltage=low fuel presure=melted motor. The EFI & fuel pump works much better with 13 volts then 9.5 volts.Thats why mercury puts them on all of the new motors.

Yes !!! isnt it great :-)
I am going to cut a hole in my cowling to get it there... Maybe a clear bubble to show of the shiny parts :-)
hopefully no more charging problems I have 4 pumps as you John... I am planning to use one alternator for the 2 engines . maybe I trow out one of the optima batteries .
dont think about the hp used from the alternator...it isnt a issue.
it dont take much when the batteries are charged.
you could always take of the belt for that top speed run, If I had a drag I would be carefull to have the right voltage for fast opening of injector valves at high rpms....
