Since the SOB thread has limitations to a race class and there has been talk of starting a new thread I will try taking the plunge and see if anyone bits. I would like to see a list of the fastest single engine pleasure boats.
Tuff 24- 118 with DRB 300XS
Tuff 28- 106 with 450R

Why have the "rough water" exclusion, you'll only end up with the same list in the SOB thread.

We shall take that out then. Send anything you want into it. Hell send air entrapment hulls in as well if we want. I would just like a list of pleasure boats that are single outboard powered. I am not in any position to be upgrading any time soon but when I do this would be a list that would help me figure out what boats to shop for.

KKraft’s SRV went 114 with a DBR 300XS
David Shook went 116 in an Allison XB2002
a couple of owners list their SS2000 at 120 on the Allison owners site
On the tunnel aka STV side, Michael Dixon went 151

Define pleasure, how many people and belongings are you bringing, are you running on the small lake, river or out in the ocean big lakes?
Cause towing a 28 footer with the family every weekend doesnt seem like too much pleasure to me, maybe you got a good slip or the assistance to launch

2+ plus people, with a stereo and a good wind fairing? Room for storage? Hell I keep a Porta Potty under the hatch for the ol lady in the Tuff hahaha.
I guess it is all subjective though. I would say keep it to currently available combos and not one off race boats???? The only reason for this new thread is kicking the king out because its 24'9" lol.

id say that’s a pretty good explanation because my 18 foot hydrostream is not comfortable for 3 or more people, not good in waves nor does it have good wind protection all of that can make a big difference in comfort...that’s why I picked up a 22 velocity outboard, should be good for 3-5 people with plenty of storage space up front, comfortable in the chop and hoping to get 65mph outta it...easy to trailer too

Nowhere near your 100 mph list but I’m not looking to take any on a trip that fast, I donT think they would get much pleasure outta that

My definition of a pleasure boat is pretty loose as it varies from person to person and body of water to body of water. But I always have considered it something that anyone can buy as Hellbents stated and not one off boats. If I were spending money on a new boat this week I would be shopping for a Tuff 24 or Chaudron 25 or something along those lines but there are many other options out there and I am only one person that is not actually shopping for a boat right now...
In Europe and maybe next year in the US they race offshore class C3 but I believer that's Cats only and have to have canopies for safety they race one motor up to 27 feet.
No GPS chit, not sure if they mix Vs and tunnels ? why not?

My 1986 21 Superboat went 88 mph with a stock 300x. I'm sure there was more in it but I repowered with a 300xs and I haven't got the handling good enough to get close to the old number.

Indeed he did, at Stockton Straight on the Savannah River .................running upstream! Michael lives two miles from me, and is a generous source of help to my son and me, with our two boats.
Michael was strictly a drag racer, but decided to try for top end. Wally told him he was crazy, that the STV was never designed to run anywhere near that fast. Oh well ...........

Dixon and I, and a few others have lunch together every Saturday. I can't remember the details on the motor he was running that day but seem to recall it was a 300 drag spraying several progressive shots of nitrous. I'll ask him today at lunch, if I can remember. I'd like to know about the prop and how many revs he turned, too. I do know he was/is adamant about liking the prop shaft set at 1 3/8" for best drivability at speed, and to get top speed out of a STV. He's calmed down a bit, concerning boats, over the last 10-12 years, but will still stretch one out occasionally in helping friends get their's dialed in.

For myself, when I think of “fastest single engine V bottom boats”, there is only one, and it’s name is Allison.
I remember the first time I saw a Grandsport running full tilt with a hot 200 ProV Yamaha hanging on the back - I was in my car heading South along the Mississippi River and he was running North maybe 50 yards away - glass calm and nothing but the prop in the water - maybe running in the low 90’s ? I’ll never forget it - I ended up having three of them.
Having said that, if I was shopping now, the Tuff 24 would be very high on my list - I’ve never drove one, been in one, or even seen one, but they seem very impressive.
MDS
I'm an old Allison fan. Had 2 years ago back in the early 80s.Then I went with go fast CCs.Anyway, picked up a V21 about 5 years ago and restored it. I'm satisfied with 80mph even though it's got more. I've got nothing to prove now and my reaction time/driving skills aren't as good as they once we're.This is a good thread, hope it keeps going on updates on whats going on now.

Same here! Another Progression or 2, a Tuff, a Liberator from Randy, a Battlewagon 20, an Allison and then a few restorations of Hydrostreams and older Checkmates. Of course there would also be the Nordhavn 59CP for Great Lake trips.

And then there is this from an interview with Darius Allison.
That’s the boat that set the outboard speed record at 129 MPH, in the 1980s. With a 2.4 Mercury, carburetor engine, it ran a 134 MPH in one pass, but the two way average was 129 MPH.

You have to take into account that it was Glenn Reynolds at the controls. Hell, I shook his hand at Jasper (back when you could do that sort of thing), and the next day I gained 5MPH in my XB2002. :D Likewise, I had a couple of dranks with King Louie Clienmark, and almost blew over backwards. :D
Glenn has always been the king of set up, He's one of the best off the line, said he's 78 back in Oct.
he put in the water to race and had a linkage issue.
I believe Cliemark is the best rough water Allison driver.

Stadola - You'd have been fast in your Allisons, but you had about 500 pounds worth of fishing gear in them :) I suppose they were easier to drive tho .... LOL

If Jack Daniels bottles and something to float on counts for fishing gear, then yes, you are correct. :D
What kind of speeds was that Alli SS (I think) in the brochure getting with that Yammie (I think) 90 horse?

Going deep in the memory banks, but I want to say 72 - the article was in "Trailer Boats" or something like that. I had bought the magazine.

Exactly. This thread was over before it got started.
No one has ever contested Glenn Reynolds top V bottom OB speed of 129 mph. That record was set in 1987 with his Allison.

I have got to put my other 2 cents in, the xb 02 is the ultimate hull i.m.o. others will definitely disagree with me, but here is my reasons, first of you have a completely fiberglass hull, which will never rotten, 2 lightest boat with a working live well that you can buy, but say you don't fish, doubles as a cooler to stuff all the beer in you could drink in a day, and 3, FASTEST v hull period, there's no reason my boat could not reach 120 if I stripped the excess weight, 2 batteries trolling motor, sets seats easily 350 lb and ran the chit out of it with a high pitch prop that will turn 7200, I got 108 at about 6500, hands down, I love you Darrius and Nancy for giving the allison to us, not even talking about the xr lol, anyone got a different opinion? Love the s and f community, can't wait to hear some responses

Not sure aboot fastest, but Andy Driver seemed to send quite a few guys to the trailer with his. I'd say that's the quickest. If I recall correctly, they seemed to dominate lake racer class for a stretch. Great boats.

That’s the story I hear too. Dominant hull in the drags. Not too many talkers who own those hulls though. I’d like to run along side one by happystance one day and see for myself

The fastest larger V bottom is from Tuff. 24'9" of pad V fury from the great Northland. Hull only said to weigh 800lbs, it has clocked 119 mph with DBR 15" 300XS. Without question the fastest 25' pad V anywhere in the world.

That's pretty incredible. Does anybody have an idea of the HP of the DBR motor? I get it's light and narrow, but 118 with a single is strong. Not many 20 foot boats, including tunnels, will do 118 with a single 300. Very impressive.

A stock pre 2000 model 300 x is about 285 after year models are 330, i would say anywhere from 350 to 450+ dependent on the build

I think prop hp on the 300xs is about 305-310 stock and about 330 with the DBR kit, its just a air inlet, tune and flywheel.

His is a stage 1 flash only.
Also, not that they count because they are sterndrives but the 24 and 28 both have crushed Allison’s speed in lake boats. The 34 is next level

Well I cannot wait to throw a wrench in all this!! In an effort to be competitive in a specific class of racing, I have shelved my 21' Eliminator outboard build for a certain October Race and begin a new chapter with the Velocity 22' hull. It will be powered by an LSX with twin Nelson racing turbos, Holley Dominator control and yes, a Blackhawk Drive using the XZ 1.36 or 1.25 gear sets. I am rigging the hull as I would an Aircraft with all weight balanced for level flight... including my fat ass in a Left side seat.
I have no doubt that an Allison is the fastest outboard boat produced ever with the proper rigging and a driver who suffers with a "sickness coupled with an obsession" for speed... but when the river dumps into the windy lake or say 45-50 other boats are churning up the river, a small OB "potato chip" hull is not going to go 110mph for 2 hours, let alone four at that speed!
For my plan to work, I have to be able to keep this puppy running 5100 rpm for the duration of the event... which for an LS is easily doable. After the success or fail of this run in October or possibly in preparation for such, I will run the LOTO Shootout as well. Just have to see. Right now, all I have is a bare hull and after much searching, the Velocity 22 is the best one I have found for the task at hand. I am certain there are some who will say the Blackhawk is not rated for 600+hp and I will agree, with the once exception... the gears it was produced with THEN are now much stronger when using the diesel versions made for the BravoIII. I can also tune the "Hit" from the turbos to be more progressive and since this is not an "Offshore" application where the hull will be exiting the water with wave action... it might handle the consistent load to push a hull much lighter than earlier versions of Chris Craft & Donzi Boats that the drives were originally designed for.
Bottom of the Velocity 22'
502240
This Cigarette 24' could reach 112mph with a stroked Viper V10 engine making 605+hp with a Blackhawk drive and 31" props.

I agree... I could build a boat with a Nelson Racing Engines 1400hp twin turbo LSX and a drive for less money than buying ONE Mercury 450R!! As soon as most people realize this, the shiny new outboards are going to become a bit dimmer in the light! The 1100hp pump gas engines start at $28K and fully optioned are about $33K... of course, if you wanted to budget build a 450hp to 650hp with a single eBay turbo, you can do that for less than $5K!

The Allisons will run better than you think in rough water, you just have to take your time. I have had my light XB 2002 in Lake Maurepas when it was rolling. It was no speed demon, and my Howard would have been much faster. That is like apples and oranges though if you give the Allison flat water. I made it across from the Tickfaw to the Manchac Pass and back in the rough and stayed dry!
Had a Mod VP, but the Allison is the most fun to drive for me.
Far as the SS 2000, everyone has told me about 110 was where they got stupid. The down force from the large wind screen, which is nice at times, creates too much at speed. Pushes the bow down which is not what you want on a V. That may have been a problem with the "lip". My XB was modified by a fellow in Dallas, TX. I did the same my SS on a boat ramp with feeler gauges, a long straight edge, and a sanding block, made it .020 all the way across. It took a couple hours as I sneaked up on the sweet spot, it is a pussy cat now. You can drop the throttle at 95 and it will just coast down instead of hooking. Speed goes... well I have a 280SS on it now, so we shall see. :)
I ever buy new OS, it will be a Tuff boat. No doubt one of the best looking and best running V-hull platforms out there!
