Mercury got the job done right with their four stroke V6 and V8 programs. Recently did a repower package replacing a BF150 Honda with a 200 ProXS V8. Do the math:
Pro XS 200 weighs just 30 lbs more than the Honda.
FOUR more cylinders than the Honda.
FIFTY more horsepower.
The side profile and rear profile of the Mercury engine cowl is nearly identical to the Honda.
Mercury's big engine four stroke program will send Honda back to the drawing board to re-think their "automotive adaptations" (Acura blocks).
Honda better check the price tag on their big engines too.

Mercury's new four-stroke 3.4 and 4.6 liter engines are absolutely a generation ahead of the four-stroke outboards from their competition. When I went to Lake X a few years ago to test the 250R and 300R, I was so astonished by their performance that I remember texting Norris from Lake X to tell him that I had concerns that my report on them would not be believed here. Up to that point, what Mercury accomplished with the new four-strokes was assumed to be near-impossible for a production engine. I think the new four-stroke engines has Mercury's competition very worried, as they should.

I purchased my first four stoke outboard this year and I am very impressed. I ordered a new tritoon last fall and had them install a Mercury 150 Pro XS and could not be happier. It is very quiet and has a lot of torque.

Isn’t Mercury and tahatsu tied in together?

Probably for motors under 40 hp but definitely not for 50 hp and above.
The 40 hp and under ... 100% offshore.
Like it or not, the "American made"(assembled) models are up to 50% offshore.
Nothing new there ..
Silly me ... I thought it was only S. Korea , India , Japan ... :nonod:

pretty common stuff. i remember when omc designed & marketed & built a 4-stroke throughout the 90's & beyond, and were all built in belgium. smaller horsepower engines if i recall, in the 20 horsepower & under range.

The more boats with the new V8 I've been in, the more impressed I am with them. They really set themselves apart from the prior models with the extra torque and the new props selection they can swing. It's great to see Mercury pushing the bounds of big HP outboards.....

How is the integrated steering? Does it give good feedback?

That is a BOLD statement.
You are saying the world I grew-up with is leaving. MercCruiser and 2 Stroke Outboards.

America is still in the business of manufacturing Bearings. Over a decade ago when I was with an OEM helicopter company, we purchased from NHBB; ball, roller, and rod end bearings. They were quality bearings manufactured out of their New Hampshire facilities.
And also tapered bearings from Timken, another quality brand from the USA.

I think there will always be a market for big I/O, but the market share has clearly shifted to the outboards. Even small cruisers are loaded with them. The boat manufacturers love them also. It's a lot easier to plan, build, and rig a boat without the motors going inside of it. The more obvious observation over the last 5-8 years is the high dollar Center Consoles and Performance Catamaran market have gone Outboard in a huge way. The demand for big HP inboard cats is nothing compared to OB cats and OB center consoles...
My only gripe is waiting for our orders to come in.....
Jr.
The shippers will be fined by the ports ... after the containers are offloaded by union crane operators . Which are then loaded onto union approved chassis , driven by union truck drivers.
Plenty of highly skilled operators , yard bosses , truckers , riggers .. in the land of fruits and nuts. The commies can't skim off the top like they can with unions .. they only get the legal taxes involved ...... once.
So you'll just have to wait for your Won~ton soup parts .. to go thru the proper channels .. ;) Before they can finish your new motors ....
Bad time to rely on Xi Jinping and the BulT bUk bUDDeR policies ... :)

My 12 year old could write a better report with less grammatical errors than what's above. My 12 year old is also intelligent enough to not waste her time explaining something nobody asked about. I guess some people need to justify their existence.
Plenty of US manufacturers that source 100% American made parts are backed up due to material shortages/supply chain logistics also.
As an end user, I'm extremely excited about the HP outboards based on what is offered right now. The future will only get better.
Some look forward to the future. Some post a glory days trophy from 25+ years ago like it means something. Lol

Totally excited to run my new Merc ProXS 200. Have been told the exhaust tone from this thing is truly unique......to the point where Harley Davidson patented their V Twin engine exhaust sound. I can leave the days of 2 strokes behind in a cloud of blue smoke (pun intended). Still own a ton of 2 stroke equipment ranging from Homelight chainsaws, Rotax powered SeaDoos to OMC fishing kickers. Said goodbye to my Merc inlines and 2.4/2.5 V6 stuff several years ago. Still have the memories though. Having a ball shopping for new 3-4 blade propellers for my new Merc V8.;)

200 HP ... V-8 ... I don't think it's got enough trim to outrun the blue smoke of a mediocre 2.5L :nonod: ;)
