Painting your lower unit---- DON'T

Why cover up some nice aluminum parts when you can polish them?
It's only a lot of work but well worth it.
This thing isn't finished but probably as polished as I'm going. The picture does a pretty good real life image of it. It' getting Kandy red paint on it to finish it.

These parts are full of blemishes and casting stuff not needed. This thing has been smoothed where I was sure it wouldn't weaken it.

Heres a reflective image shot to show how mirrored it is. It may have tiny buffing scratches the first shot showed but is nearly opticaly flat.
The pics were taken in a fairly dark room and those cowl vents being white really scew the exposure.

Finaly did mold my cowls rear vents and as you can see need a bit of smoothing work still.
Almost but not quite in thier respective positions. Notice the aluminum foils reflection under the largest one.
The clamp is mirrored at the left also.

Forgot to mention in the 1st pict but the clamps are remaining partialy sand blasted rough. Both for sanity requirements and to offset the polished areas. The ram is also left blasted on purpose for contrast.

So get out the sanders and wheels. The only back breaker is swishing the huge pivot thing under the buffing wheel, again, and...

I was thinking of telling Greg to just clear his polished LU. Car wheels get wet all the time and it works fine on them;) Then you only polish it once.

BTW, sure looks nice. That is a lot of work.:cool:
