Took my 1980 Baja 16 ss out today and the transom cracked while running. Im assuming the wood pieces in transom are dry rotted as the boat had been in storage for a long period of time. However the rest of the boat is in perfect condition, all original. Im curious, what is a rough idea of the cost to fix this? Stopped at a shop on the way home and they quoted me $7,500! That seems very high. Also for you Baja ss guys, is the entire boat fiberglass other than some pieces of wood in the back? Is the a common problem for these boats, its rated for 120 but this rig has under 100 hp moter on it currently. Thanks

I loved my 16SS. It was a blast with the 135 Silver Starflight Evinrude. Fix it and enjoy.

No warning about the transom at all. Boat seemed perfect but spun out hard about 40min into our ride becasuse of the transom cracking and almost ejected us. Not fun

found out that this haul has no stringers, only Wood in the boat is in the transom. Very surprised that this is the case. Is this not common for the baja ss? I believe my Brother bought the boat in the 80s at a boat show and it was just the plane Haul without the motor or any gages and such.

I used to have the same boat. The transom, floor, and core were replaced by the previous owner. I don’t know if it had stringers under the floor
