View Full Version : cheap GPS speedometers
Anyone tried the cheap ebay/amazon GPS speedometers?
I'm interested mostly in a 0-60mph analog unit for wakeboarding and slalom. Its not a tournament boat but update speed and accuracy are important.
I've been using an old Airguide adjustable tournament pitot style out of a Mastercraft. It worked great as I could set it with my phone GPS but it finally crapped out. Those are getting really hard to find and pricey when you do find one.
I bought one a few years ago from Amazon I think. It is a analog sweep and matches up pretty well to my Garmin GPS Speed. If this is not it it is close.

Sierra makes a decent 0-60 unit. You will have to buy the receiver antenna that they recommend matching to the speedo. Be very careful looking at the wiring diagrams that come with each device. The way they are drawn its easy to wire the jack plugs backwards and they only provide so many crimp pins for the jack plugs.

Bought a used Garmin Nuvi on Ebay for 25 bucks. Been using it 5 years now. When it craps out, I'll buy another.
