Hey guys, so I’m working on purchasing a cat and I’m currently calling around for insurance quotes however most companies won’t insure them. I figured I may run into this issue but rather than keep emailing and calling around I wanted to just reach out to the community and ask what companies you guys use that currently have cats or a high performance boat 30’ and up. I live in Florida which I heard makes this search even harder….Thanks in advance!

Except you are in Miami so if it’s a small Cat you’re screwed. Expect to pay $4k/year or more, if they can find someone like Lloyds to underwrite it. Miami/Dade county is literally the worst place in the US to insure a small, high performance boat.

Good luck!

yes unfortunately I’m aware Miami is how I like to call “the land of scams” and it’s nightmare when it comes to almost any insurance. The vessel I’m looking to insure is a 30’ so not really on the smaller side unless you’re comparing to 40+ footers.

You might get lucky, 26’ seems to be the break point. Longer and some specialty insurers will write it. Shorter and unless it’s a bass boat or goes less than 65 mph you’re screwed.

18 months ago I was in the same situation, 21 Liberator. I'm in north central FL. Wozencraft insured me for $1200/yr with full coverage but only 100k liability. That's all they'd write. Problem with S FL is the theft rate. Also don't BS them on the top speed, they know what they're doing.

Wozencraft is a broker / agent, what company actually wrote the policy? I assume Foremost but I’m curious.

Why would you want to insure your cat? If it disappears just go to the pound and get another one. Boy, I read that thread title wrong.
