trying to find a empty gear case with bearing carrier to fix a 73 850 lower unit

There are tons of gearcase/bearing carriers that will interchange. Off the top of my head I'd think most any from the early 70's through sometime in the 80's and probably newer than that actually, will work, from both inline 4's & 6's.
