I took a 2.4 offshore block apart and noticed that not all the crankshaft sealing rings were smooth on the edges....when I put it back together is there a special place for the rings with the raised edge? Maybe top and bottom of crankcase...I did not pay attention to where or which crank groove they came out of ..I was i n to big of a hurry to get crank out and cleaned up...could the raised area on the outside edge of ring be wear? sure is uniform....any info would be great..I'm thinking that the raised areas should toward each end of the block to seal better....

I would think the raised edges are wear, they should all be burr free with no sharp edges.
I have never seen sealing rings like this, they need to be de-burred and cleaned up on a sheet of glass or any flat surface with fine grit sand paper

The 'low areas' are wear on the ring. You should replace these while the engine is apart. They're cheap as motor parts go. Worn ones either cost performance or, worse yet, lubrication in some places. The lip is the criterion for replacement!
