Got the boat out and fired her up today. Preparing to "hopefully" go out this weekend to shake everything down.

I notice with the key on the tach was sitting at 500 rpm. When running at idle it was 3k. Trust me its not idling that fast. The engine is a 95 2.5 carb motor. The tach is a Faria.

What could be causing this? I noticed other gauges, also Faria (water pressure and water temp) are not reading to zero when at rest.

I have a new Odyssey battery and had the boat winterized and a new in-control throttle installed late last year. That’s it.

Thanks,
Steve

The tach should go to zero with key on (and temp should go to full left scale). Sounds like lack of power to the instruments.

The battery is new and fully charged. Other gauges (ie volt, fuel) seem to be fine. What is the best way to check proper power to the guages. Power trim, jackplate, fuel pump are all working fine.

Check it on the back of the tach with a voltmeter or test light. Power is applied to the "ign" and "gnd" terminals (purple and black wires as a rule).
