Nice article about Yamaha's "performance" DFI. Runs on regular gas, meets current emission regs and comes with a warranty.
Still hope for the 2 stroke.
They also test a new 4 cylinder 150hp 4 stroke that sounds pretty impressive.

Anyone out there running a Yamaha DFI motor? Tell us about it.

Am I missing something,

Max WOT RPM: 5,500
Only pushed a 1,650 lb hull to 73.3

Are they sure that think puts out 300 HP?

Just seems a little funny

blkmtrfan...that champion hull is 1,650 dry lbs...by the time it got wet it's probably on the high side of 2,600 lbs if not more. Too bad it only rev's to about 6,000...that's gonna make finding a prop even harder.

Sosmerc, there are lots of people over at the bass boards at wmi.org running Yamaha HPDI engines. Post there, and I am sure you will get some answers. I won't guarantee the quality of the insights, though. ;)

Any 300 hp 2-stroke is great news these days, even if it may turn out to be close to the lower end of the 10% band like the non-X Merc. Promax 300, and especially if it is environmentally friendly.

Yamaha's big-blocks have been really strong at the bottom end, unlike the big-block Mercs. If this engine is anything like the 3.1 liter EFI models, that will make the problem of finding a prop a lot smaller.

(I have link at my links page to some interesting dyno sheets of a 3.1 liter Yamaha vs. a 3.0 liter Merc)

The bad thing about the 3.1 liter engines were that they were fairly long-stroke fishing engines not designed for RPMs.
