LATLEY I HAD PEGGED OUT MY WATER PRESSURE GUAGE. I DID TWO THINGS I REPLACED THE POPPET COMPLETELY. THE SEAT WAS OUT. AND FOR SOME REASON I HAD THE SPENT WATER CAVITY PLUGGED. I ALSO UNPLUGGED IT. NOW I HAVE 5 PSI AT ABOUT 2500 TO 3000. WITH A GOOD POPPET, WAS WONDERING IF I REPLUGGED THE CAVITY TO GET MY PRESSURE BACK UP SOMEWHAT. GOOD IDEA.....OR BAD IDEA ???

On some early V6 Merc's, the poppet valve has a hole to the rear of the poppet valve. The poppet has 4 bolts on the cover. Some have 2 bolts,Those are just poppet valve motors. Some with 4 bolts have a hose from the top of block to the poppet cover, water by passes the block to raise temp's at low speed. Some with 4 bolts have a hole behind the poppet, that by passes the block and works like the one with the hose. Now for the problem you have, it sounds like some one switched parts. The inner poppet plate has to match the style you have. I think that there are also 2 different poppet valve lenths. If the one that was in there was to long, it may not haye opened to let water out = high pressure. Good old mercury has changed that setup a few times:(
