I feel as if my steering isn’t as responsive as it should me I have like 2” of play in the wheel before it grabs I was just going to change the helm but thinking to do a side mount because I need to change mY cowl anyway for the price difference is it worth it

More details needed for us to help you with the 2 inches of play but a a side ram will be a drastic improvement. What system is currently giving you the problems? Maybe you need to inspect the bushings and mounts before anything else.

Agreed there is not enough information in the original post to make a judgement but there is obviously a problem with the current setup. If you already have hydraulic on there then I'd suggest a thorough flushing and possibly changing fluid to atf or something like that (I did that on mine and really liked the results) I have the standard front mount cylinder and 2.0 helm currently and it's not sloppy by any means but I do want to change to side mount cylinder in the future as well.

If it's hyd steering it has air in it, need address leak and bleed, try to move motor side to side by grabbing engine and shaking should not move at all. Same with cable steering if moves inspect all linkage and adjust. also check all mounts and tiller bushings etc.

Also check motor mounts if they are not solid ones

It’s hydronic system and I’ve bleed a number of times snd no change rather then just doing her, looking from maybe a side mount

Can you shake the motor side to side if you grab it?
