Any ideas what this is. I ran the serial number through the Mercury parts site and I get nothing. The guy claims it's a 1998 200. I know it's not, but it's cheap and runs good.

The guy is wrong lol.
Early 2.4 200. My guess 1983-86. There will be a date stamp under the timing arm on the other side.

Yep I agree also. It does have nice aluminum flywheel tho. So wonder what else they did
Haha. Plug wires look like sumthin id do in a pinch

mercnet you need to add the O to the beginning of the number that old

On https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/searchserial it also shows up as a 1985 200, but that cowling trim switch in the photo looks like one from the 90's.
