help racer or others-225ho carbs

i put the carbs(5001043 & 5001044) on a 98 johnson 200 venom. carbs have 78d mains, 27 mids, & 106 pullovers. carbs are brand new. i'm running it on a 20foot ranger(1500 pd hull weight). running a 14.5 x 24 raker. idle reliefs are plugged. ran it without the airbox and gained 400rpms (went from5700-5800 to 6200 rpms. plugs show a light paper sack tan. put the air box back on an it want pull but 5800rpm. now that tells me that its rich on jetting. but the piston tops are clean( no carbon ). is it jetted so rich that i'm washing it all off, even the plugs. i know i'm going to have to add some pitch. she has a heck of a hole shot. i'm worryed about jetting down or putting the air box back on till i talk to ya'll. RACER , i know you said to run it with the airbox, what's the reason for running it. where do i go from here. plug dumps don't seem to change any colors or piston tops.

Sounds like it is so rich it is washing the pistons, removing the air box on that combination is about three jet sizes, a light tan is tooo close on pump gas. Go down one size at a time. Running that engine at 6200 is fine.
