Bucksport Marina Championship
Two full days of racing action boiled the waters of the Waccamaw River just south of Conway, SC May 31 and June 1. The race conducted by the National Outboard Racing Association and sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association featured 4 classes of OPC, Outboard Performance Craft, boats.
The overall winners were Lee Daniels in SST 120, Ernie Brown in Formula V, Mike Fjeld in Super Sport and Neil Haraway in SST 60.
The action was fast and furious with no down time during the program. Saturday’s racing was cut short by gusting winds just before the SST 120 final. The 120 final was run Sunday morning. At 1 pm the racing action began with qualifying heats of the Formula V’s. The program concluded at 4 pm after running the 4 classes, 11 races and 97 laps of accident free racing! All in a 3 hour time period with a 20 minute break for river traffic and a one boat ramp!
Each driver was also presented with a check for over $210.00 for appearance money after the awards ceremony, where the first three finishers from the two days combined results were presented trophies.
The Race was presented by the Bucksport Marina and used their facility, with the co operation of the Weaver Brothers and Weaver Construction Company.
We would particularly like to thank Marlon and Stuart Weaver for their tireless efforts. As well as the NORA team of Lon Annis Chief Referee, Steve Cooler Race Chairman, Larry Tuttle Pit Manager, Sam Haraway Inspector, Ken Adams Safety Inspector, Randy Knight Assistant Pits, Barbara Grigg Chief Scorer, Charity Annis Assistant Scorer, and Melissa Campbell Assistant Scorer. It is through the efforts of these individuals, working as a team that such a successful race was concluded.
