Had a new prop sling a blade. Manufacturer says I hit something. This is based on another blade being damaged. My take is the other blade was damaged by the blade that broke off. I'd like to send a few pics to someone for an opinion. The break looks like it has air voids in it. Broke right at the hub/blade interface. I don't want to post pics publicly at this point. I know it won't change anything with the manufacturer. Just interested for my own knowledge.

Any metallurgy experts out there? I can email or text a few pics.

Most airports (even our little one) have an industrial park around them that services the hangers. Find one of the jet engine shops and ask them who does their fan blade certification/fracture analyses . Will cost a few bucks but they will write you a legit report on their findings.

An ole guy a few doors down from me was a "strain analysis engineer" for Pratt. I take that to mean they would run one up to full speed .. and throw a chicken or a hand full of 1/4 x 20 nuts in the intake .. Then sypher out what happened … :D

Good luck , let us know how ya make out !

Chaz,
You have a whole bunch of Pratt people in your area. I went to Electrical Engineering/Automation college with several of them. They were great guys.

The "compound" houses, Sikorski, Pratt+Whitney, RocketDyne, and only god know's what else is out there .. ;)
The race track is right across the street .. what noise ordinance .. :D
They cook them military weenie roasters on full afterburner at three in the morning if they want too ..
During shift change it still looks like an invasion out on the beeline .. :)

At party's it's fun to hear them guys talk … I say , I don't have clearance to hear about that waste , they say .. shut-up and take these drill bits .. Per engineering mandate , they only got one hole a piece on em .. :leaving:

When I ask them about this … they say , Don't know .. not my dept .. :o

New. About 1 or 2 hrs run time. Not saying the manufacturer at thia point. Main concern is the discoloration and air pockets in the break.
