I don't get how you guys can get into a "HydroStream" and think it's bad ass. It's got to be one of the most horrid looking things I've ever seen. That's why there add sais something to the effect of "Take a ride in one then you'll understand." Even there own advertisers imply we know it's horrible looking, but if performs. Just my .02

Hey did'nt I just read in HOT BOAT MAG how they bought a BIG BLOCK JET BOAT ,and Sank it half way (Bow Down) so the pump could SQUIRT the shoreline to put out fires. WHAT A GREAT IDEA! Finally found a real use for those SLEDS! I would take a ugly Hydrostream anyday!

Not one of you guys here has mentioned that you probably all get eaten by jets out of the hole. Yeah, my jet ain't very fast, my hydro is, 7.67@149 last weekend. Those are REAL mph numbers. My jet only runs mid sixties, but every outboard I've had or seen (and I mean lake boats US1, LOL!!!!) can't haul a sick hore off a piss pot!!! Rather go 60 with low end balls, and then go real numbers like 140's. Non off that in between crap! 80 mph in the length of the lake? Definatly NOT for this cat. BTW, I threw a chicken in the water once, they look just like hydrostreams when the swim!!!!!

I don't get eaten out of the gate by jet boats, most of the guys that want to run me put their boat in the water, make a few passes, and there done. 5 gallons of fuel, 500 plus cubic inches, and a 300 pound lay-up with one center seat, now that's better suited for the calm of the drag course. I'm sure your hydro is very fast, however, it does not sound like much of a lake boat. It seems to me that there are hydro's out there with outboards running 8's in the 140 mph range, and that is with less than 200 cubic inches or maybe a little more. Somehow I get the feeling your running lots of cubic inches, how quick would you be with 200 cubic inches. My point young man, is everyone knows TFH is king and TFJ's run in the 170 mph range, NONE of them run around 200 cubic inches, inch for inch the outboard is King.........Uncle Tony

UT, you summed it all up! Most of us average OB owners have there abouts 300hp or less! How fast would the same jet boat run with the same power?? How much power does it take to get the average 17-19 foot jet going 80mph. Last week a Baja jet wanted to run... we did it twice. First time when he pulled up beside me from about 30 mph and motioned "lets race"... well bye-bye because the time I hit 85 he was sooooo far behind I left off. Second time was from a dead stop... same results. He had 468cid 2 4-bbls, headers, etc! I admit I do like jet boats because they look cool, sound cool, and could be a lot of fun. But for going fast I just don't think the jet pump is very efficient! Just tkaes too much power to do anything.

Dimarco Kid
08-18-2001, 07:17 AM
Your right, cubic to power ratio is better, BUT what REALLY counts is the big bad dollar bill. Mike Kuhl built my 490 Blower motor in my hydro for under 15k. How much do your outboards cost, the ones that would run 140? And yeah, my hydro does guzzle gas, but I still use it as a lake boat, 2 seats and everything. I've got $28,429.98 (to the penny) in my hydro, can you guys compete with that dollar to speed ratio?!!!!!!

08-18-2001, 12:28 PM
Yes DK you can build a killer outboard cheap. If you do all the work yourself and you know the right people to buy parts from it's not to bad. Some outboard racers spend big bucks on their rigs and still get their butts kicked by guys that spend half the amount. As for me, I would rather watch top fuel big block any day over the outboards drags. Nothing beats the sound and smell of a top fuel rig. As for a practical hard hitting rough water lake boat you could not give me your hydro. Keep the hydro at the drags and get yourself a killer outboard for the lake, if you set it up right, you can run all day in some rough water and get alot more races and have some fun kicking ass. I had some friends with killer hydro's they always worried about rough water, getting swamped and when it came to taking a trip on the river forget it. Now if your one of those guys that likes to put his boat in the water and look at it all day and maybe at sunset when the water gets calm you make a few passes have at it. And Euroski, keep up the good work..........Uncle Tony

$28,000 ? The white F1 boat in my picture on the other page is for sale right now for $10.000 ready to race, 130MPH plus.

Dimarco Kid
08-18-2001, 02:32 PM
You are right about the clam water only, I do usually look at it when it's not at the races. That's why I have a jet boat, actually buying another one too.

US1, yep 28,000k plus. BUT, two seats, killer paint, custom trailer, (even put Boyd's wheels on it). It hauls AND I love to take it to shows. I do think that my hydro is more lake ready than a capsule tunnel! My wife would get pretty tired of watching me all by myself! Also, 130 plus, that's damn fast, my point is I bet you couldn't buy it for that if it went 130 plus in 7 seconds! Also, you definately can buy a boat cheaper than you can build one, you know that as well as I do. Mine started as a BARE hull. You could buy a tun key boat comparable for 15k. Building and buying are two different things. Yeah, mines a race boat but it ain't as much of a race boat as that.

That's why I have jets to "play" with. I can pull 5 skiers, as many "tubers" as I want. Can do alot of things an outboard (for $8000) can't do. If I can already go 140, I would rather have a boat to do watersports with. And probably yes I would consider and outboard for my ONLY boat. Does everything "well". But untill I can't afford multiple boats, I'll keep my rocket and "tow boats" thank you. You'll just have to be patient and wait till sunset to get your ass kicked!!!! LOL:)

us1
08-18-2001, 04:58 PM
Your right, I'm just teasing you. An F1 boat is only good for one thing and its not comfortable cursing. But that wife thing, I don't know if I can agree with that. Think about it now, no one screaming in your ear sloooooow down or stop looking at that girl in the string. It does have its advantages.

us1
08-18-2001, 05:01 PM
One more thing, I may not be able to go 130 MPH in 7 seconds but I can go 130 MPH around corners.

08-18-2001, 08:28 PM
Well, I don't know DK 7 sec at 140 plus mph sounds like an all track boat to me. But then again I could be wrong, maybe next time I go boating I'll see a top fuel hydro pass me up if he can stay toghter long enough. Let me know if your ever in Lake Havasu we can wait till sunset and you can show me what you got.........Uncle Tony

Dimarco Kid
08-18-2001, 08:59 PM
That is a very good point US1!!!! Never thought of that. But, when your running zoomies it's hard to hear her anyways!

Unc. Ton, someday I'll make it down there. Long haul from Maine, bear in mind that the closest track with clocks is North Carolina for me. So that should proof I use my boat as a "lake boat". Pennsylvania is the closest race, still 12 hours away, and no clocks. I wouldn't have built my boat if I couldn't use it.

Go to http://www.hotboatsforsale.com , click readers rides, click Dimarco Drag hydro, that's my baby. That was taken in CA. when I bought it. Have gone from nitrous 468, to nitrous 540, to blown 490. Never did put the Owens in it that I mentioned in the letter below it. I need to send that guy a current pic with new motor etc..

Be cool

08-19-2001, 01:58 AM
Maine, no wonder, you've got the lake all to yourself. Try that where I boat and you will end up in a body bag. So.Cal has lots of hot boats and not much fresh water, so when the boating is bad you can always look at the naked women....Uncle Tony

First...Euroski,85 will not pass this jet boat.
Second. You may build you outboard cheap but to maintain it is another story out in my waters. I did the outboard thing here. Love them but was tired of the shallow water and obstacles floating just bellow the surface tearing things up. My jet was in self-defense. Also the whine of a blown big block sounds so much better and the visual affect cant be touched.

If you read my post I said I left off at 85! Why waste a 100+ run when it's not needed? I do agree there is nothing like the sound of a BB chevy engine. With a jet isn't it just as easy to do internal damage as any outboard or out drive boat. You still can suck something in, right. What's the purpose of the 20 foot high mile long rooster tail other than endanger some other boaters... jet, ob, or IO?

I got a smashed up hydrostream that I have no more than $2000 in. It'll hit 103 I can hold my foot on the floor 'till my leg goes numb, 12 gallons of gas lasts me all day and a jet boat has never passed it. And i've beat the **** out of for 3 years and if I can remember right maybe I've put a set of plugs in it and i think I changed the lower unit lube memorial day. Most expensive part, the 500 dollar bob's bearing carrier.

Hey I thought I would join this one, I have always gone by - Here for a good time not a long time. So that the reason for a jet. Yes it eats gas, requires alot of HP and sucks, but any body can be fast I'm quick. Something you OB guys dont understand.

Big deal you can run on the lake all day, so can I will a few gas stops, But can you also run the shallow river - dont thinks so...

Euroski
08-23-2001, 05:22 AM

I?m with you nothing like a good spanking by the wife, but as far as being spanked by an OB you have got to kidding!

What?s it like having a single purpose boat (dedicated to polluting out water)?

I keep hearing you guy brag about how little your manhood is (less than 200hp) Us jet boats we believe that manhood does not start until around 600hp.

WrightNow

us1 I spend all my time south of parker at a place called Big River and lost lake. Pretty quite down my way but it nice flat water most of the time. I'm making my first trip to the sand bar this weekend with HB, should be fun. Are you going to be around?

I spend most Saturdays down at lost lake watching the races. In fact I'm going to try racing my boat over labor day weekend. It's a good time, very informal and everyone is invited. Not many O/B's, maybe it's time some of you guys showed us jets what your all about. Who have you build motors for? I have some friend with trailers there and they seem to know most of the crowd.

Barney
08-24-2001, 03:05 AM
I guess if you have a place there, it would be cool.
But to go spend all day on your boat there, I can't carry enough beer, of course then there's always Boatcop and the drive back to Havasu. Parker is some 15 miles??, after you run end to end a couple times, what do you do for the second half hour?

Personally, I can't think of a more foolish thing in the world to do than go boating fifty miles from Havasu, we all gotta have our priorities!

I've never been to Lost Lake, Big River. Only been to Parker once, got pulled over by Boatcop's deputies, nearly got swamped when some jet skis started circling to watch the female free for all wrestling in my boat, (I guess there were no jets available at the time, cause all the jet boys say they love the jets, I'm a Barney what do I know?)I can see going back down to RiverDave's party though.

I think the Sand Bar in Havasu might just be the perfect little wh-oasis for me! :D

So John, with all that being said, you should bring your little "Pinkie" up to Havasu so I can smack her around too.
She already got two of those black boys on her back, should be warmed up :D ;) :) and handle me no problem!

I have to tell this story. I was at parker in my old mirage that weighed 800lbs(heavy for a mirage). I had three guys in the boat including me. Here comes a blown daytona 19' the guy is wearing a helmet and life line jacket and he horny to run! of course he gets me out of the whole by about two lengths, by 3\4 track I'm runnin next to the guy and of suddenly its time to get out of it. I drop my buddies off and go to run him myself and he ties it up at the dock! typical.

RiverDave
08-30-2001, 10:18 AM
US1, Jetboats aren't considered "faster" then outboards. Even most of the jet guys realize that. They just accelerate a little harder. If you really wanna go fast you gotta have a v-drive or an I/O :)
RD

Is that some sort of racing group or something?? If it's props racing props then turn on the TV bud. You'll see V-Drives, I/O's, Arnesons, all spanking Outboards in the offshore racing. As far as Drag Racing is concerned I don't know of too many Outboards that'll keep up with a nice V-Drive flattie or Hydro. Could be wrong, but I think I'm right. School me O/B guys edumacate my poor I/O driving as*

Wills is a big mouth wise guy jet boater who can run 110 mph in the !/4 mile ( so he sez) in the parking lot he is the king, in the water he's a chicken. I spanked all his friends but in the parking lot he told me " sheet, those boy's you run can only run 105mph in the !/4 and I can beat alls of them. So I told him put your rig in the water and let's see what you got. He told me " no, it's to rough for me right now, that's your kind of water. His hull is not a light lay-up, go figure. Next time I see him, he's on the water, so I said, are you ready to run and he sez ok, so we idle out of the no wake zone but just before we get out of the no wake zone he saw a friend and stops to talk, so I waited 5 minutes , then I yelled, you gong to run or what? He just ignored me and idled off towards a cove with his friend. What can you say.......Uncle Tony

If your outboards are passing Jet boats you are hanging out at the wrong lake. I used to say the same thing till I met 2 guys from Lake Texoma, their jets made a Chuck Goodman 300 drag, with NO2 and alky, on the back of a Mirage River Racer look like a Tohatsu on a Bayliner. I kid you not... I love outboards too, and have never been fond of a mudsucker, but I know when to say when!!! I saw him run a 1/4 mile pass once at 118mph I don't know if that is the best he can do, I witnessed it my self on the GPS. Don't believe me go on up there and find him. They live on the lake on the Durant OK side... Good Luck!!!

Well hell .... There's always somebody faster than you, and if there ain't somebody is working on it. If one 600hp drag motor ain't enough to beat a sucker then maybe two will. How much money you got?

(I ain't got a whole lot so I'll stay with wacka power so that fishin boats don't beat me)

A 118 quarter mile pass is a helluva long way from makin' a Mirage with a nitros/alky 300 drag look like a Bayliner.

Even if I didn't know what to I wanted to say at least I can spell it! It's not "your" its "you're" a conjuction of you and are... and my BBC is "louder" (not lowder)than popcorn, I know because I've heard those hot air poppers you call an outboard popping at the dock. That little check in the upper right corner with the "ABC" over it is "spell check" try using it. Your (possessive of you) quips have more zing if you don't look like such a jackass.

Shouldn't there be a comma after "spell check?" Oh yeah, it is "conjunction" not "conjuction"... the little "ABC" over the check mark can even help jet-boaters.:D

yo whipper,

My boat is a 1979 sleekcraft sportster all original, unrestored jewell. 454BBC with a Berkley 12JE. Purchased it 3 years back from the original owner. He said he was just too old to enjoy it anymore. Drove 18hrs to Michigan to pick it up. On the test ride I thought he was going to kill me! Old guy had a lead foot that's for sure!! Boat needs a full restoration but it's in pretty good shape overall. Nice thing is all the parts are there and I don't have to search the world over for three SS screws and a one off stern cleat or something. I love the boat and the attention it gets on the water and on the trailer. You don't see many unrestored classics in Florida. I'd send a photo but all of them seem to exceed the 100kb limit. Anyway good to chat, thanks for the cool photo and sorry about the farm animal reference. too much or not enough coffee??---225hcca

Boating is great period whether its in a jet, OB, I/O, V-drive (ETC.) I have driven OB, I/O, and now my first Jet and in my opinion its the most fun I have had. Your never going to be the fastest no matter what you drive because there is always someone out there faster. So whether your a 50mph cruiser to a completely outfitted offshore race boat running 170 in three foot chop it really doesn't matter. I'd rather be having a blast with other boaters then worrying about who's faster...just bring it and enjoy
the ride......:D :D :D E

although i think your being a smartass, I'm going to answer your question because I cant tell for sure either way.

basically its a quote from a book thats (very short condensed explanation here) about how the hippies and radical drug culture were their own worst enemy. :D plus, anything referring to hallucinations and drug trips is a pretty good read on its own.

Lake Kerr is in Salt Springs Fl. A great place to hang out with jetters, wackers and v drives..This is a spring fed lake clear water and a large island with a sand beach..It is a long way from Mi.Most hot boaters in Fl know where it is...:)
