I came in to work this morning and saw like 30 bald eagles circling and swooping down to get fish chunks out of the water. The fish plant grinds up salmon heads and pumps them into the channel. The eagles love these!

Way cool:cool:

ya'll have Eagles around there like we have seagulls.

I thought when I saw 3 here, (the first ones I have ever seen) that was a big deal, (I guess it is really, that means they are making a come back)

Great pics!
You live in a beautiful town. What time of year was that picture taken? I have been trying to talk my wife into an Alaska trip for years, but she has an affinity to cold!

You would LOVE South east Alaska prettymuch anytime. Being on the coast with the warm Japanese currents, The weather is pretty mild all year around. 60* today and it was in the low 70's last month. It only gets below freezing late Jan - early March and then only in a few day spirts. Winter is usually in the mid 30's to low 40's. Right now the sun rises at 6:30 am and sets at 9:30 pm. In another month it'll be 5 am and 11 pm. If you're into fishing, you can limit out (2) on 35#-45# King salmon in an hour!! Halibut range from 20# to 300# and I believe the limit is 2 per person

Yes,... it is deceiving saying I'm from Alaska. The first thing everyone thinks of is eskimo's, ice pacs, polar bears, and igloo's. That's WAY up north. It's amazing to hear the weather you guys get and having to put your boats up for the winter. Sure, it isn't like Florida, but we do boat all year 'round. If you love fresh seafood, This is a paradise. Prawns, crab, clams, and fish are abundant all year and within 15 minutes from town! August - Jan is goat and deer hunting season. Blacktail deer are abundant and we run the beaches in our boats. As long as the boat isn't moving, you are allowed to shoot. There is a 6 deer limit per license. We usually wait till the first snow then they are standing on the beach just waiting to be taken home.

We have one of the largest concentration of bald eagles in america. After I took those pictures I saw at least 50 eagles swarming like flies getting the gurry (fish chunks) out of the channel. We had two tour ships in town and the tourists were standing outside the busses staring in awe.

There is a 6' wide lawn strip between my window and the water. right before I grabbed the camera there were two eagles standing in the lawn like 10' away. They flew away as soon as they saw me in the window. That would have been a great shot!!

I'm glad I am able to share a little bit of our town with you guys.

Chicken huh??:p I thought it was more like spotted owl!!!

My daughter (age 10) and I are planning a big vacation next year.

I really want Hawaii (at least to go there first), but the kiddo is dying to go to Alaska! She may have something. I'll have to look you up one day when the time is right for some more info.

BTW, AKStreamin, don't you know the Boatnik in Louisville (aka The Frugal Boater)? I grew up with him, smae school and all. We live a few miles apart. Seems like he mentioned a guy from AK.

Later. Stephan

Always wanted to go there, I bet you see the Aurora boreialis, all the time (I know damn well I didn't spell that right) (you know, the NORTHERN FRIGGI'N LIGHTS)

That would be so Fu@#in cool, it almost seems like you could hear them!

I've found the Spotted Owl to have a more "tangy" flavor that reminds me of California Condor. Both require extra sauce, but if the temperature is kept down they can turn out quite delicious. ESPECIALLY if served stuffed with snail darter pate.

18 hours of daylight, don't know if that's good or bad?

1- Honey I will be home at dusk!
2- Not much party time after sunset!
3- That's a lot of gas in one day of boating!

Seriously I always associated Alaska as being COLD

Yes, I do know Mark Booker (Boatnicks), I sold him a chopper a few years ago and we've stayed in touch ever since. Can't believe he's in the 80's in his Viking / 150 combo.

Living on an island does have it's draw backs. No Conneticuit River run, FireWater, Or Rumble. Everything has to be barged or flown in. Milk is around $3.69 / gallon, Eggs $1.69, Bread $1.49. Super unleaded is holding at $2.09.9.

Now a construction laborer with no skills will make $13.00 - 15.00 per hour and a skilled carpenter is in the $18.00 - 20.00+ per hour. Bank tellers start out at $1750.00 / month and go up to $1900.00 / month.

The Northern lights are spectacular and are mainly in the winter months. I'll take pictures and post next time they're out.

RA, You're too funny!! I can't beat that one:p

Hey Alaskastreamin are the spotted looking eagles female or immature eagles? I dont know anything about them, My wife and I saw 1 once and thought it was a big deal. Red Allison you really need to try the bind cave fish they're real good:D

The spotted eagles are the juviniles. The females are the bigger ones. I think the mothers were teaching the youngin's how to fish.
