I have a 20 inch shaft I took out of a CLE. It was on a Mariner 225 Super Magnum, 1998 I believe. Equivalent to a 225 Promax. The bearings in the lower unit failed and I took it apart and sold the case, prop shaft etc. Still have the drive shaft. Not 100% sure it's what you need. I can send pics and measurements if interested. Can also look for any numbers on it.

Hey Danger, I am 90% sure the CLE shaft will not work according to part numbers. My current gear case is an early 90's (housing# 1647-9147-C) not the stock 225 ProMax gear case. Thank you though!

GOOD OLD mother Merc:rolleyes: super ceded number is just Mercury bs they do this to confuse the unknowing:confused: CLE drive shaft will work fine i promise its most likely a consumer shaft any way since cle internals have not been made in quite a while i have torn apart so many cles that have fishing motor lower unit guts or at least part of them believe me it is not rocket science

Thanks Texas, I appreciate the info as always. I get it with part numbers, having worked in the parts world for many years in the past. Most of the time in the Ag Industry if a number change wasn't a change in the part itself, it designated a different manufacturer was producing the part. Just an FYI. Yet with Merc it seems as though they played musical part numbers and "let's put this part here because we have one left over" at times. :D
