I already know the answer but is this crank savable or not? I was going to start putting pistons back in when I noticed this. This build is turning into a big headache.

You better check the bleed fittings at the top and bottom of the front half too...but that thing is a lamp.

Q: "How F'd is my crank (https://www.screamandfly.com/showthread.php?348842-How-F-d-is-my-crank) ?"
A: "Proper F'd"
(A reference to a recurring line in the hilarious Guy Ritchie movie "Snatch" lol).

For those that know, I don't. Expense aside could it be saved? Spray welded then reground? Or some other method, or would the heat of welding ruin the hardening?

Even if spray welded. Would that still be a week point for the harmonics of the flywheel to give it someplace to break at?

That is (supposedly) the one place- Marine Crankshaft in CA- repairing them "properly": http://www.marinecrankshaftinc.com/outboard.html

You’d be 500 into it for Marine Crankshaft to fix and it’ll still be a repaired crank. Just find another one. That one is junk

Merc 2.5.....a small nick is ok.... for a fissing or hand granade.....If ya use the old Big rods it will hold up case's them rods are close to bullet proof.....but stick a piston and they will beat a block to bits.....Yes.I have rods........Sorry I never got back to you about carbs......that happens in Daves world........

Also as stated, check your oiling check valves are working properly and clean.

x2 Tony i have a clear hose i put on the bottom to top bearing oiling hose to see if its oiling then replace it with new stuff, rods are just as dangerous if that cap aint perfect i never used it i ve seen many rod bearings that cage hung on the mismatch and bearing started skidding ruining crank and soon the rest of the assembly

Amen Bobby! I use yellow Tygon with small tie wraps on all bleed. I also always replace the top & bottom bearing plus cap seals top& bottom no matter how good they may look.

That can be done ..... get it to a crank specialists .
But it all depends on the cost v a good used one.?
in the states you have masses of good used stuff so its more than likely a lot cheaper to replace.
