This month's Professional Boatbuilder magazine also has an article covering what is happening with 3D printing (molds, as well as smaller parts)

Pretty cool. Got to tour Blue Origins new rocket manufacturing facility over at the Cape a few months back and they had a machine very similar to the one in the article. That one was slightly different as it fed resin infused threads of carbon fiber. Ha!

That video moves too fast, start and stop it from the beginning and check out the unique hull design from the rear forward it has a very narrow deep Vee with a flat pad, then

it looks

flat on the sides changing into a Gull wing type of design blending into a conventional deep water front, not only the method of it's construction innovative but the design is

revolutionary.

Very cool and it’s not hard to see how this types of mechatronic fabrication systems are going
to become mainstream in a big way. It’s Tesla’s weak spot imo and where they left the door wiiiiiiiide open for aggressive market dominance. All it needs is someone up top with enough balls to make these systems a priority. It’s only a matter of time

Got to wonder about cost, of course cost will come down in time but the materials may be expensive.IDK

Well, so far they are $20.5M into the first boat

but seriously, it would be interesting to see what the actual cost on the materials and time are per boat.

I'm impressed with that design

Way outside the box, more info please.

Stop being so lazy. All you had to do was follow the link in the OP, read the article, and google search Navatec.

It is called "Sea Blade": http://sea-blade.com/sea-blade-hull-design---stable%2c-efficient%2c-seakindly.html

I wonder how strong it is. I have been interested in 3D printing for some time. I have watched dozens of videos on them, some of them strength tests. They are getting stronger and stronger, but it makes me wonder if they are there yet for an OS boat. For making a plug for a mold, it would be great!

Says they are using 3D printing plastics with 50% wood...?
