Big motor small boat opinions!

Hi im wanting to get into high performance boat setups just as a hobbie. I dont have a tone of money so im starting small for now. Have a 1979 lund snipe duck boat that weighs 146 lbs and i have a strong running 1991 yamaha 3cyl 40 hp motor that weighs 154 lbs. Im wantinting to set it up stick steer with the stick between the legs and i have already found a wraparound cockpit seat out of an old gamblet bass boat, hot foot throtle ang just a generic gear selector that works. What are your opinions on a motor that size on the boat? Im already planning on reinforcing the transome with extra bracing and iv been looking at self adjusting trim tabs if you guys think that will help or not. Would love any feedback!

Only thing I can say besides, go for it, is that in some places if you rig a boat with a bigger motor then rated for, you may face serious criminal charges if someone gets hurt.

After that, just do not go out and pin the throttle wide open. Take some time to learn how your rig runs and handles.

I have a prop and set up that I still run, on purpose, just to scare the be-jesus out of certain people. At a certain motor height with my 21p Renegade, my boat jumps side to side at anything over 50. Controllable, but a wild ride.

Cool looking little boat, like someone took the front of a canoe and mated it to a john boat.
Never saw or heard of one before.
Make sure your transom is solid first, and then reinforce it! At least another 3/4 inch marine ply for starters.
I think yours is rated for 10 HP max. You're QUADRUPLING that!
If the boat floats the weight of the motor and you easily, as posted above, take it easy at first.
This is not an endorsement of your idea.
Wear a life vest, and make GOT DAMM sure you have a kill switch on that thing.
It can keep running in circles if you get tossed, and it could possibly kill you!

Yes thats it. One of my concerns is the nose on the bow being to high if im sitting low and not being able to see over the top.

Stick steer on a narrow, way overpowered boat scares me. If you must, gear it down so that any throw of the stick makes minimal change in the angle of the motor - making docking hard, but you will find yourself swimming less often.
