View Full Version : Starting a new 22 Liberator today

WILDMAN

I sold all the 21 and 22ft Liberators I had in stock. I got this new one a couple weeks ago. Now that I'm caught up on all the other boats, I'm starting this one today. I got the windshield fitted and all the holes cut today. It will get a Garmin screen to show the engine info. I'm not sure yet wether I'll put a 300R or 400R on it.

I got the boat off the trailer so I can paint it. I weighed it. Bare hull weighs 1054 lbs.

$74,900 with a 300R, but $104,900 with the 450R. I know it's crazy, but someone has to do it. The California cats the same size were over $100k with a 300xs.

Very cool! In pic #4 is that factory steering?

It's the factory ram. I will use the Seastar power assist instead of the Verado power steering. It cost a little more but I can use custom hub and it does not run full time like the Verado pump. I can also use the Seastar Pro trim levers. Gotta keep both hands on the wheel ya know!

Are you thinking the river, Diaz or the test pond?

Joe

WILDMAN
07-31-2019, 07:29 PM
Gotta be Diaz so I don't end up in the woods!

mjw930
08-01-2019, 09:43 PM
I used Diaz for the first couple runs with the Talon but alternated with Crescent Lake. The county ramp is great and if you’re early, the run south towards dead lake is usually flat and during the week the lake is empty. Also lots of room if you need to get past break in hours. Dead lake looks like a perfect testing lake but the fish camp ramp can get busy.

Just saying, you already need a bigger boat and perhaps a bigger lake :D

WILDMAN
08-02-2019, 12:24 AM
Crescent Lake is 60 miles from me. Diaz is 32. It's 2.5 miles long. Plenty of space. The 300R hits top end in about 1/2 mile at 113.

mjw930
08-02-2019, 06:53 AM
Understood, it’s closer for me. Watch out on the south shore of Diaz, there are some shallows that aren’t obvious.

I ran the 22 Liberator again today and my buddy Steve Bishop had his Go Pro. Ran 123 with a Hill 34" x 15.25 five blade cleaver. The new Porta Race bracket sure helped alot wkile trying to get the best top speed. Amazing how strong they are while holding this 450hp motor. The motor was on the rev limiter at 6450 rpm, so I have a bigger one on order. Here's a short video of an acceleration run.

WILDMAN
08-27-2019, 10:15 PM
It's amazing how strong and sensitive the bracket is. Rated for up to 750HP. Just the lightest bump picks up speed alot. I've noticed with these bigger sportmasters that just an extra 1/8" can run you out of water pressure. I have also seen that when running into a 1ft chop I can have 30 lbs pressure, but just turning around and running with the chop, the pressure can drop to 5 lbs. It must be the fact that the water pickups are so much further back on the new cases. That's when the Porta bracket is worth what it cost! You get what you pay for!

WILDMAN

No cons on the tabs. They are on there for any porpoise than sometimes occurs in calm water. The 450 accelerates so fast though that zone, that I thought I'd try without them. The 300R accelerates through it too. Usually 62-75 mph. Here's the ram air cowl in primer. We should have them available soon.
