Is that Popular Mechanics thread on the OMC F1 gone? Was thinking of trying to post the dyno chart and PV diagram of the F1 engine. I won't bother if it's of no interest though...

Gary-
Do you have a schedule of events for the Rumble?

Thanks

Gary. When you said you were going to dump it I made copies of what you posted anyways. I like collecting material on those engines. They didn't have a great power curve, but could develope some big peak numbers though. I'll send'em to you since no one is biting inside here. Thanks, and have a good day - Russ.

F#@k THOSE GUYS! It's like saying Ford is better the Chevy... bla bla bla...! Theres' a big diff. between enthusiasts and brand-loyal dickheads! Information leads to knowlege, knowlege is power! Thank God we're not all the same - keep up the fight bro!!:D

Gary, you shouldn't take this all personally. Debating is what this forum is all about, and for the record, I've seen MANY slams against Mercury engines here. I always thought it was in fun though - was I wrong?

Scream And Fly is about ALL performance boats and outboards.

Let's all lighten up a little and enjoy the debating. We're talking about engines and boats here, not our mothers and sisters.

Here's me circa 1993 with - what's that??? A V-King and a 235? See, I can admit I like OMCs.

If it makes you feel any better I think I don't like OMC's cause the way their cowls look from the beginning of time until now. What does that tell ya? I did like the GT's though cause their cowls were cool:cool:

Gary,

I totally understand how you feel. I have never witnessed anyone making fun of another member’s misfortune on this forum in a serious manner. That won’t be cool at all. Yes, there is a lot of ribbing, and since the Mercury guys are the majority, I guess it hits on the OMC crowd a little heavy at times. I can understand that too much of anything is not a good thing. I will say though, that if you had engine trouble, you know that everyone here is on your side. Nobody would use that as an opportunity to bash your engine. We have all helped each other here.
I have said on many occasions, and I will say again. I like ALL outboards. Do I have a preference? Yes, but my preference does not mean that I should ever disrespect another person’s point of view. Maybe we can think about that a little when we joke around too much.
Like I said, I like Mercury and OMC engines. I had many OMC engines, and I still have a V4 on my Laser. Jeff is another example of the spirit of this website. His efforts and resulting performance with his Yamaha is truly inspirational – just as your efforts are with your Vector project.
We’re all family here – a great family too. I would hope that you’ll continue to post your pictures and share your information, because I find them interesting, as many people do too. That goes for everyone too. We’re the greatest performance boating family in the world here. We’ve all accomplished so much together, and I am so proud of that everyday.

Sincerely,
Greg

Gary, since some of your remarks prior to the answer to Greg's post were directed directly at me, I'll respond to some of them too. First of all, in my case at least, all the OMC jabs are in fun, and I don't see where it's any different that all the OMC guys pokin' fun at the Mercs blowin' and needin' towin'. I don't see why you've gotten so overly sensitive, and I can't for the life of me figure how it got to the point of you taking any of it personally. It seems like a little bit of over reaction and exageration to me. You referred again to the "bashing" in your OMC V8 race pictures. There was no bashing there.
I haven't seen one single case of any body saying you're FOS. Who called you an idiot for "thinking your Stream would actually run"? I missed that post.

As far as serious stuff, look back at some of the stuff that I've posted that people have disagreed with. Jeff G & Jim Hunt, both very knowledgeable on inlines don't like my opinion on setting timing. Jay Smith and I have a difference of opinion over oil mix/fuel viscosity/jetting. I can't even remember the number of people that disagree with my opinions on HydroStream hooks. I hate splashin'. That goes against the grain of a lot of people who post here regularly. I think aftermarket tuners are a stupid rip off by people who know better. Some people insist they've seen improvements foolin' with em. I haven't made enemies over any of these differences, nor the ribbin I take about my choices in boats/motors/cars/motorcycles, etc, etc. Only time it turns ugly for me is when people take differences of opinion personally and resort to name calling or personal attacks. I've never seen anyone on this board react to you in that way.

T-Rex has caught continous grief about blowin' powerheads and his are black. We even nicknamed him Kaboom. Somebody even made a cartoon about him blowin' motors and gettin outrun by a gator that Balzy ran over and turned into boots. Rex thought it was funny as hell and so did most everybody else who saw it. WHAT THE HELL'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THAT AND KIDDIN' YOU ABOUT THE MOTOR ON THE BACK OF YOUR BOAT??????

Most of the flack I catch around here is about stickin' stuff in the garage and not runnin' it, or being too old/ too fat/ too scared to run a boat. It doesn't bother me either, I think it's funny too, even if partially true.

There's a big difference between me and Greg. He said he knows exactly how you feel. I don't have a clue and am at a total loss. I think you're reading stuff into all this that doesn't exist. Here's a lesson in life 101: People that don't like you don't screw with you usually, or either it's mean spirited if they do. I haven't seen any mean spirited responses to any of your posts by anybody. There are a few people on this board that I don't care for very much and I just ignore em. I'm sure there are more than a few that feel that way about me, but I don't see people who post jokes and wisecracks as "the enemy". I think that the people who kid around with you are the ones that are your friends. I rag on Rex constantly about his motors blowin and his looks. He gives me the same kinda stuff back and as a matter of fact, he started it. He rags on a bunch of folks on several sites and THOSE ARE THE GUYS HE LIKES. (I keep usin' Rex as an example because everybody likes him, yet he catches as much flak as anybody on the internet)

Here's the bottom line as I see it: as long as you post on this board, or most any other for that matter, you're gonna catch flack from somebody about something. The internet is about recreation and tension release from a stressful business for me. If posts were restricted to the serious stuff it'd get pretty dull around here in a hurry. You should consider the people who take an interest in what you do as your friends and be flattered by it. Your enemies aint gonna care what you do or what you say. As an OMC lover you placed yourself in the minority and that makes you an easy target for a little roastin'. Get over it and learn to have fun with it. It beats the hell outta being ignored.

Gator

Would this be the time to bring up the fact you cheated last year when the lowly Sonic with it's lowly Johnnyrude power put that 1/2 mph on the incredible Warlock with it's magnificent Merc motivation?

Well - you did. I saw you put those two extra people in the boat right before we left. You thought I was not looking. Everybody knows Johnnyrudes are used to carrying all that extra weight around.

I almost put up a fight at the beach to get you to leave them on the swing rope. I would have if Damage & Baby Huey had not broke the rope.

Maybe this year.
Love ya man

Im sorry and my face is red. Been searching for 2 evenings for that dyno sheet and PV diagram. Found the PV diagram but the dyno sheet is alluding me. Thats one of my prise posessions too. I suspect it may still be packed away in some boxes I haven't unpacked from when I moved. I believe I can still get a copy from a guy who was working that project with S.E. Bear with me, I'll produce it since I stepped up and said I would. Thanks for your patients and again, I appologise - Russ.
