Driving fast with single cable steering

My trolling motor cable broke so Im going to the lake tomorrow with it removed, no batteries, and no gear. It's a 17 ft boat that does 59 GPS loaded. It has normal single cable sterring.
Anybody been able to drive a boat fast with that kind of system? I'm expecting mid 60s with 200 plus pounds removed. 50 of that off the bow. Another 50 from the front compartments.

I wouldn't the steering torque will be stronger at 60 I know people do it but that is putting alot of pressure on one cable and they are rated for 50.

do it if you must...with a functional kill switch. test to make sure the kill switch definitely works.

So I was runnin a 15ft bass boat with a 200 for its last motor , I went thru 9 motors in 10+ yrs all with a single cable, stupid and dumb but I never killed myself , boat wouldnt run over 65 with any motor because of handling issues , thing is the torque on the wheel leaves no room for balance correction, just test ur kill switch and make sure u got red loctite on the single bolt holding it to motor , but I did drive mine many many yrs like this , started with a 70 merc up to a 200 , both brands ,rudes and merc

I had a 16' Checkmate when I was in highschool with a 150 on the back. When I was ignorant and didn't even know hydraulic steering existed. I had no idea what RPM, prop, or speeds I was running, but it SUCKED holding that wheel to the right. Luckily I was 18 and in good shape. Also ignorantly dumb. I wouldn't do it again, nor recommend it.

No I dont recommend it either but in sum people cases ,u can do it if u just wanna get in water. But dont b tryin set too speed records with 1 cable. It's just to hard to handle and dangerous, but wont stop you from getting on water
