How many of you have seen this? Sharrow Engineering (http://www.sharrowengineering.com/) has this propeller design with some very big claims to go with it. Basically, the design is credited with providing every benefit imaginable - greater top speed, better fuel efficiency, less vibration, safer, and a stronger design. I know I've never seen anything like this, and I'd really like to run one of those to see for myself how it performs.

According to their website, propellers for outboard and stern drive applications will be forthcoming.

One thing is for sure - I wouldn't want to strike bottom with this one.:smiletest:

Their YouTube channel has a test video, though they are lab tests, not actual use comparisons.

Yes, it is unusual. I will believe it when I see them on the lake...

It looks like it would catch the spray of a surfaced propeller with the bow..? So, not on my boat! :smiletest:

That would take a nasty ice-cream scoop out of a manatee's back.

Not a fluid dynamics engineer, but that doesn't look like it was designed to be surfaced. I can't imagine tip vortices matter much in a surfaced application.

Looks like those openings may set up some nasty blade harmonics, hard to tell from the picture. Need to see one up close. Supposed to be more efficient than regular props? Time will tell, if they work we will hear about them. Kinda like the Torque Shift Prop from Land and Sea. Never could get that thing to work right on my boat.

How do ya go about makin slip calculations on that?

But, how does it do in reverse?

Draco hypergolic reverse thrusters of course,

or a paddle

on that note we have the Great Naples dock race Saturday at 12:00

How much does it weigh? What kind of low end torque do you need to spin it up?

Interesting. The moment I saw it I thought of squirrel cage fans vs direct drive fans using turbine technology in place of fan technology.

seems like any kind of strike would bend the blade "loop" out of shape. much less surface area attaching to the hub so cracking will likely be an issue also, especially with the potential for "harmonics." interesting looking gimmick but that's all it is i think...

Sound like a Chinese outfit without much depth.....

Went from simple fan to squirrel cage.......more info to be had.....Does it give bow lift?

Was reading their website. They are out of Philidelphia, they are aiming for the shipping, military, commercial and inboard recreational boat industries. Apparently they are taking orders now of wheels up to 10 meters. They are claiming better fuel economy and say it takes less torque to acheive faster speeds with their design.

They better do a lot of R&D before they cast a 10 meter bronze one.
