Promax Temp

A few weeks i traded power heads with a gentleman in fla. and now have a 2000 225 Promax. (rick-great guy). I am looking to do some kind of temperature monitoring,is it better to use the block top port with a sensor or go to the heads. Thank you

There is a port (1/8) pipe thread on the exhaust diver between the voltage regular that work well. The warmer (not hot) the better on the steel sleeve motor. They come from Mercury with 143* stats.

You can use any gauge kit Autometer, Livorsi, Mercury etc. Most complete kits come with multiple fitting sizes. The main thing is to use 1/8" pipe for the mounting on the exhaust adapter port.

If you look closely in below picture I use a 90* push lock fitting you can get at your local hydraulic shop. I personally like to use a 90* fitting for safely/close routing. You do not need a push lock and can purchase a 90* 1/8" fitting from any local hardware store.

Sorry to not have mentioned the temp above but I thought we spoke on the phone, maybe someone else.
Posts above are correct, like to do both!
As for obtaining temp reading you should have a 3 wires sensor on the post head 2 tan/black and 1 solid tan, the solid tan is your temp reading to a gauge. Incase someone was curious the tan/black go to ECU so it adjust fuel mixture.
Temp work on ohms so in order to get an accurate reading the gauge needs to correspond with sender. Teleflex makes the Mercury gauge so they will work or you can get Livorsi or Autometer just MAY have a slight temp variation.
If you use a wet sender it will read approx 25* cooler then block temp its ok as long as you are aware of it.
When I decide to run a wet sender I usually run it from top of starboard head behind stat housing. Just need to use a short sender to not interfear with stat function.
Another bit of info, if you are running stock stats once the tail tale is working/dumping the water temp should be around 140ish.
PS; You want to run a steel sleeve motor nice and warm NOT hot!

Ok--Thank you. So what is the primary use of the 1/8 port on the exhaust cover plate. For water psi i normally use the top port on the block.
