What does it take to make a Mercury prop fit an OMC V6 l/u? The splines look the same. What's the difference?

the splines on a merc prop shaft are longer than omc shaft. in some cases you have to machine out some of the splines inside a merc prop so it can go all the way on a omc prop shaft.
