Installing a new LH gearcase on one one of my ‘2000 225 HP V-6 loopers for my Checkmate project and have a question on shift rod height.

My factory manual spec’s 26 1/4” + or - 1/32” but I have that crossed out and hand written in:
26 15/16”+ or - 1/32” which is same as RH units.
I think that spec came from Mr Stoker but was 20 yrs ago so???

Can someone w/first hand knowledge please confirm/correct me before I scatter a new case?

Thx guys!

Gary

Spec is +/- 3/4" for SEI and the spec won't stop it from scattering  :D

SEI will send you a new one. And if you can scatter the replacement. SEI will use it for R&D. I have seen more good SEI lower units then bad ones. My first transaction with SEI was me calling for gear info. The guy on the phone asked why i had a gear out of a SEI? I told him i bought a motor from ins auction. Lower unit looked like it was placed on a train track and resembled a coin after a train ran over it. He asked how old it was. My answer was i had no way of knowing any history on it. After telling me where to find a serial #. He said i was in luck. Still had 6 mo of warr left. He said ship it to him and it would be repaired or replaced for free. I explained again that i had no receipt, I was not the buyer of it, and then repeated the condition. Lower did not fail, it was crushed by a unknown cause. I was surprised when a new one showed up about a week after i sent SEI a box of scrap.

They are 20 mins from here. Seen plenty scattered and when used in salt for any amount of time (if they survive) the case corrodes twice as much as the 20yr old mid they are usually bolted to. Must be the alloy they use not very corrosion resistant. Its easy to tell when its an aftermarket case cause theres usually paint failing due to corrosion under it and the lower literally changes color when compared to the 20 yr old mid it bolted to. Nice to have them right around the corner I know a few people that had issues. One replaced his factory 19yr old lower and had 3 SEI in a year before he finally put a used factory one back on. After I told him not to another put a bobs cone on one (voided the warranty) and surfaced it. Has been back here three times 1 broken carrier (replaced with a factory merc carrier) couple months later it spins the carrier. Pinned it to as a bandaid but comparing the key way groove to the 6-7 sportys in the shop its not gonna last long. His sporty is in the shop waiting for some funds to build it.

I ran one on my 2.5 build during break in, it didn't even make it through the 3rd tank of fuel.
