View Full Version : STV River Rocket vs Quarter SHot T3

Looking at replacing the Seebold with a new STV RR or a Quarter Shot T3. Looking for some advice between the two hulls. I spoke with Jack at FTP yesterday, and he recommends the T3 for more of a rougher water boat. I do mostly river/ lake running, and there can be some big wakes from cruisers and wake boarding boats, so I definitely want something that is capable of handling that easily. Overall top speed is not the biggest concern for me. I would like it to be able to run 110-115 with a 280 ROS on it. Read a few posts on S and F, but all are 10 plus years old that I am seeing. Any advice, comments or photos of what you have and how it works would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

I don’t have much info on said boats one thing I know for sure is the two said boats will not handle cruiser and wakeboat wakes “easily”

Jack has been making both boats for years. That may be the best advice your looking for.

They ride the same today as they did 10 years ago. I had a EURO I used for river riding. My best time to ride was right after the bass tournaments blasted off up until the first ski boat showed up. After the wake boats start, you'll be idling and hoping not to get swamped. Loved my boat, but it just wasn't built for the traffic I encountered. My opinion, look at Allisons, if you anticipate much traffic

Mach, What would make you want a T3 over a STV RR?

I don’t want a T3.....I like my STV lol
You said you might get into a little rougher water....
T3’s do much better than STV’s in snotty water.
My STV is fun, but it really shines in flat calm glass water.

Amen... Me and Gordon accidentally had this conversation the other day. Bottom line STV for top end but T-3 for everything else. I wanted a rocket when my T3 fell in my lap and I will own one. They are both the best boats you can buy. Both will go 20s with ur basic 300hp but the T3 handles the big block weight much better and is usually worth a boat or 2 from 8-40. The tunnel being so long seems to mask the fact theres a fridge hanging off it :p
Edit- The snotty water comment... if you let off to take a leak in lake Marion you will take one over the bow and get a face full... :leaving:

I've driven and been in both. The puff of water at low speeds in the STV when porpoises gets old quick. I like the more protected dash/windscreen in the T3 also. Jack knows better than anyone. 433825

Ive owned two STV RR and two T-3R's. I agree 100% with what Jack and others here have said. I would say be sure to go with the standard layup up around 600-650 lb though. If not drag racing you wont enjoy the light 480-500lb lay up for lake play weekends with snotty water.

Which Seebold do you have and why the change? I’ve always been a fan of the Eagle Ski for a all around performance boat.

I have a Eagle Ski, but the boat was gutted when I bought it, and the paint isnt the greatest on it. After pricing out what it would cost to have it painted how I want it, and do an interior in the boat, I am not that far off of paying for the better part of half of a new one. I will probably keep the Seebold and work on it as time permits, but for now looking for something different to put my 280 ROS on.433828

Ask the guys that were on the Jasper river run or at River Ranch last year about my rocket. You can set one up for running chop but it can't be light.

Yep but talking river runs, If its too rough to go faster than 50 you can't take ur phone out without gettin water damage and If its got a big block it won't leave worth a ****. Both problems solved by telling jack to pull the other molds down.
ps. coming from the guy who's had a strong/heavier vicious vacuum bagged/infused tunnel had broken bottles in the sponsons every weekend. Gotta tip toe through the tulips with this boat :D

The river rockets will leave pretty good with a big block... Just takes a bit of work and adjustment to set up from your typical river running set up.

A race or so before dialing it in and vs a Lighter Q3. Came out of the hole right with him with a small Diameter ET. Now as far as river running and being dry absolutely the T3 although we did experience white caps on Lake George in florida last week and honestly i was fairly impressed with the way it handled.

What other molds? I believe Kevin was referring to the q shot molds that have been sitting a while because he has been building more of the RR's. I believe my last T3 was the last one he built and that was in 2009. He was talking about the tunnel sneeze that RR does in some conditions and at certain speeds where the q shot wont and if it did the wind shield keeps the water from splashing in your face etc.

Rob, I believe Larry Gempp jr. is a 15 or 16 and I'm told there is one in the molds now. But I do agree with everything above about the t3

They are referring to the T-3, that mold is down as Jack is currently building one as we speak. You asked the right questions and have gotten very honest answers from Jack and others, for your type of boating its a T-3
Good luck

How does the T-3 Turn. Considering setting up a Parker Enduro Boat 6 mile course 50 Laps moderate water at the start then spreads out. 110 mph speed cap.
Hopeful for a 15" 300R soon.
