Anyone on here go boating in the Anclote Island/Sandbar area? We visit the area a couple times a year and have been renting Pontoons out of New Port Richey and Tarpon Springs and Spending the day on the North end of the sandbar, Has anyone got any experience with this area or areas nearby? Was looking to possibly hang out somewhere on the south end.
Any advice is greatly appreciated,

I go to the south end of anclote - good family spot. North bar - north of anclote is a little more party style and three rooker which is south of anclote is more party style. Lots of great beaches and boating spots on the west coast of Florida. Another spot not on the gulf but in Tampa area is beer can island. Heard good things about that. As well as some restaurants and bars.

We stay at the Best Western Dunedin Yacht club [which is on a concrete pier going out into the ICW/Gulf] several times a year. We take the boat or Jet Skis to Caladessi Island, Honeymoon State Park, Ancloyte Key, Tarpon Springs [Sponge Docks] and Weeki Wachee Springs. You can go south to Fort Desoto, just be careful of the sandbar ridden Tampa Bay where I have been aground several times.

Hit up Tom Foley. He goes out there quite often and lives in the area.

Do you have any experience with Anclote Village Marina? I plan to rent from them, It looks like they have a new fleet of rentals. I rented from Windsong in the past and their fleet is all Garbage.....
Last year we rented a pontoon from them that would not even get on plane, but the ride out the canal is so long I didnt want to turn around and complain because by the time we got back out there half the day would be over. They just played dumb when we got back....
I have been to the south end a long time ago but wasnt sure if it was a good place for the family to hang out.
Is there good snorkeling in that area?
Does it get rough on the west side?
Any other recommendations would be great if you know of any

Lot of nekkid people on the sandbar/island nearer Anna maria island at the mouth of the bay. Not really the good kind of nekkid either. Old people and weirdo's.... East, north, or south wind it's mostly calm, west wind over 10mph and it gets ruff quick.
