I bought an xri a few years ago to replace the blown OMC motor on my champ. Long story short, I went through a divorce and it's been sitting. It's now hung and almost finished rigged.
The guy I bought it from said the oil injection was deleted. But while looking at Google pics, I stumbled across a thread on another forum, saying the hose barb under the starter should be plugged with a pipe plug. It wasn't, but I did plug it. It also still has the reservoir on top, with wired connections. There is an open fuse plug connected to the solenoid where the main power comes in. My new controls are gen 2 4000 mpc, and I don't see anything on the harness that would plug in.

What do I need to check to see if the oil injection delete was properly done? Would now be a good time to pull the black boxes as well, or wait until it's running?
I did hear it run and drive a compression check before I paid for it.

So 1st off u need take the tank off and the wiring that goes with,,u already plugged big fitting under starter ,,on the port side motor, there should be a sort of block off plug prob with 2 screws holding it in by throttle arm, (snap a pic) , also black box can go and its wiring , may have to add a bias wire on switch boxes but may already have 1 , (snap pic of boxes), u will have to reset timing (link and sync)

He told me I needed the block off kit. But what if it's already installed? I needed to know what to look for. It's obvious something has been done. I just wanted to make sure it's done right.
He didn't answer my question about black box delete either. You're answer was more helpful.

If I was you I would take 5 minutes and pull block off plate to be sure there is a tail on it. Several times, most recently about 3 weeks ago, I have seen folks use just a cover or have removed the tail. That tail is to secure a bushing in the block and it can come loose without the tail. If it comes loose then your motor comes apart. Does not involve a gasket just an o-ring which you re-use and well worth 5 minutes of your time.
