HERE goes, will a 2006 2.5 200xs optimax bolt up to a standard 2.5 spline driveshaft? i know a special adaptor plate is used to move cowling to clear fuel rails, i should say pan insert. ive heard conflicting opinions that a std. v6 lower wont bolt up. could the opti have a 300 type crank spline? thanks guys. jay couldnt answer this one!

Don't know about the splines just check for 8. I had a 235 2.5 opti that had different pans that moved top cover forward I think. Stiil have lower pans.

WITH an alien cowl compressor hits side saw some pics. the ph is far away, not easy to get to. bolted down on pallet. is there a diff between a pro xs and just xs?

200xs is 2.5 liter Driveshaft spline in the crank. 2.5xs is 3.0 liter Driveshaft spline in the crank.
Alien cowl works on both. Must have correct lower stainless plate for an xs as it moves the cowl towards the rear for compressor and injector rail clearance on the optimax powerhead.

200xs is a specific outboard model and 2.5xs is a different specific outboard model. Both are 2.5 Opti powerheads.

200xs is the rare one that's 15" or 20" racing only, 2.5 liter top to bottom. 200 xS opti is 2.5 liter on a special adapter plate on a 3liter leg and lower hope this clears it up some

I swapped a 2006 175hp 2.5l opti onto a 1995 2.5l 175 carbed mid same application as yours depending on the year of your mid lower and cowlings. All drive shaft splines and power head to exhaust plate bolt pattern was the same for all 2.5l and possibly 2.4 and maybe others but cant remember the others.
My clam shell 1995 cowling just barely would not fit the opti powerhead I think the intake hit and it could not go all the way down.
For standard cowling setup which will fit the 200xs you will need the updated V6 lower clam shell that went on all EFI, carbed, and opti models for V6s 1996 (135 to 175 opti or 150 to 200 EFI) and newer. You will also need a 1996 or newer v6(135 to 175 opti) cowling(the one with the lever to the aft). Note the standard efi and carbed models have slightly different intakes in the cowling which could interfere and rub but could be trimmed so its best to get an opti cowling.
Also of important note in 2002 the standard v6 upper cowling was changed from composite to molded plastic and is less durable but 10 lbs lighter and much more expensive on ebay.
I have an old style v6 Opti upper that i replaced with the lighter newer model for weight savings if you need one.
You could also go with racing 200xs or alien cowls but I think that will be more expensive and i don't have the specific details of the lowers that fit and how to attach the pan under the power head to an old standard mid.

im using a standard 2.5 20" lu from a 98 200efi. it was rebuilt by bob's and works almoust as good as the sport master. the sm did give a little more bow lift and 2 mph. it was handy so i used it.
