Can I reuse this crank?? Bearings looked fine

Nope, its called spalling and it will get worse.. actually its pretty bad already but it will end up tossing the bearings and throwing a rod..

Can it be machined out? Or should I just get another crank?

No, repaired cranks are a recipe for disaster...

What is it out of? 2/3 cyl omc maybe..not full circle.

50 hp Johnson, it’s only on one side of journal

Plenty of those around, I wouldn't reuse the rod or bearing from that journal either. What year I just rebuilt one of those..

1985, it’s my first rebuild :) had low compression in one cylinder. I have a 1980 60 hp 2 stroke that had low compression, I looked up the part number for both cranks and they are the same, gonna tear it apart and see if the crank is ok

I believe that that is caused by the bearing skiding while the load is off the rod at the bottom of the stroke. I would not reuse the rod or bearing from the journal even if they look perfect.

I finally got around to taking the old 50 hp I had apart to get the crank out, the journals looked good but there is surface rust on the crank ( it sat outside 2 years, never thought I would need it ). Is this one ok to use ? Do I need to wet sand the rust off best I can ? Posted a pic of the piston as well. :) 426418426419426420426421

Need to focus on bearing journals and make sure its 100% a run out would b good also

I don't like it, jmo....but, Just for grins take some croak us cloth and see if it cleans up. I like #400, but that will take some elbow grease. The stains are one thing, the rust pitting is the killer.
If it were my motor though I'd be searching out another donor crank...

That's separation of the hard surface not really rust pitting... rust usually shows up in vertical parallel lines where the bearings have sat ... no cleaning it up.

One rod journal looks pitted, but try cleaning it up.

oops didn't look at all posts ...see you got another crank, yea as said above try and clean but if you end up with any vertical pit lines still there I would scrap it, going to be difficult to clean it up even if the journal is ok.. maybe wrap the crap out of all the journals with metal a/c duct tape and carefully sand blast the rest..

Would muriatic acid work ? It cleans concrete up pretty good ? I’ve found a few other cranks on eBay that I might just get, I don’t wanna go thru the trouble of doing this if it’s gonna tear up in 6 months, thanks everyone!!!

Keep muratic acid. Far away from crank journals

You would b very lucky to get 6 months with a scared crank, it will kill needle bearings and prob send a rod for a nice new window! Clean the chit out of it and take a look,, I'm not sure but looks like a vertical line on one of journals but hard to tell

Had a guy bring me a motor that he had tried to remove aluminum from his chrome bore with muratic. Motor still assembled minus rod and piston in bad hole. Acid ruined crank very quickly without it ever touching crank.

I must have missed the reply and I apologize :) let me know if you still want to sell a crank, I’ll take a few rods as well since I want to do this right the first time. :)

It may be cheaper to get another motor or pay to have somebody else build it for you. If you are even considering using those parts are you really able to assemble the thing so it will last? I am not trying to be mean, just realistic.
