My opinion is probably different than many, but I don’t consider what’s in that video as “rough water”. Heck, my little 13’ cat runs rougher water than that! I’d say it’s a little choppy at most.
BUT I love the way these hulls look. Kind of a shallow tunnel though- what is it, 8”?

they run very well in rough water,8ft beam, same exact hull as the fast cat/lcb fishing boat.i have the second hull built which is the original wicked sport deck, run better than any 21 skater.

We did a run last winter from St Lucie Lock to Clewiston across Lake O and the wind was out of the west and it was snotty. I was running somewhere around 60 in my superboat and a grey LCB passed me like I was sitting still. No way was my boat able to chase him in that water regardless of the urban legends of 21 superboats, would be my next boat if ever JMO
Mad Dan what ever happen to that Spaceship deck you and Todd were working on?

I have pictures of it somewhere, the original desighn was to be a 20ft canopy boat, but not a lot of room under the canopy,so todd cut it off and added the cock pit it has today, same deck tho.i think todd still has the mold, its a mold I made off a single fighter jet canopy, would look cool on a cuda

That is the only video that I have of me in the boat and its not really "rough" water but it gives you an idea of how stable and dry it is. The boats are obviously capable of way more.

--I don't think that they are going to be less then the fishing version but you would need to talk to Errol about that. There are two molds used to make the cap and a good amount of body work needs to be done in the process.
"How long is this boat, and what kind of speed with a 300xs"
--The boat is 20 feet long and with a 300XS should run 105 to 110 if it has a hull weight in the 1000 lb. range and is set up correctly.

That was me, Troy and and Mike Bethan in his carbon fiber LCB. Holy **** was that a crazy ride lol. Fastest one of ours out there currently. Someone needs to rig twins again like Brent did back in the day! I want to see an LCB hitting 130. The new Merc supercharged V8 doubled up once those come out would do it. Only a matter of time.

This project is finally getting into its final stages "I was told today that my seats are getting covered", you can see from the first 3 pictures that the paint was updated so it doesn't roll over the front of the deck. I scrapped the twin idea due to the fact that I was going to cut the transom bustles to expose more transom, and we were going to extend the running surface (way too much time) so I am going with a hopped up 300R/Porta bracket and Garmin display. Really looking forward to running this boat and getting it sorted out with a 4 stroker on the back. What a pile of work, -- I hope we get to where it can keep up with traffic...

With the right prop it would do that no problem there stable at slow speed if I remember correctly Johnny said his on plane 15-17 mph. I would just guess and say the wake for a wakeboard would be awful because of the cat design.

Its still moving along at a snails pace but everything is coming out as I want so far. At the end of the day I will be happy and there will have been no corners cut to hurry the project. The motor is almost ready, the Porta bracket is done and waiting patiently, I have all of the rigging parts to complete everything and sea-dek will be the last step before we start to try and make it run. Hopefully I can afford to buy a prop when its time-

Yes it is.
The side panels, rear bulkhead, lower dash edge and gps brow will all be covered as well. We cut the rear seats down so that the same amount of headrest were exposed on all four "they got pretty short but are still comfortable". Fineline does a great job for those of us who are patient enough to go through the process. I definitely couldn't do it if it were my only boat and preventing me from being on the water.

It is now 1600 before interior (we added a lot of structure and paint to the boat). Interior should be around 220. The rear hatch is another 25, power steering, stereo, speakers, sub woofer, a couple of screens, Porta Bracket and pump, trim pump, fuel pumps, 6 filters, passengers and luggage. We should be able to get it up to 3500 and make Todd cringe....It will be a lot for a 300R to push. -It was never intended to be a drag racer but I will make sure it can keep up with traffic on the river runs that I enjoy.
My STV weighed just under 900 bare before I rigged it and had all of the above mentioned it as well. The 300 on it pushed it okay and this one has a little more tunnel assist-

Its a bit of an experiment. I knew I wanted the power steering so the AMS will stay for now but don't know for how long. The exhaust sounds good and will potentially help efficiency by reducing the amount of air into the blade path.

So how much did the pistons, head porting and new camshafts help ... ???

Paul,
You know I have never payed to attempt to make something run better. I will say this, these guys have things figured out and the potential is crazy. That being said, the money gets crazy as well so I will most likely never experience anywhere close to their limitations but it WILL be respectable. Give me 6 months to get it sorted out and the world can see the results first hand. There was no lie told- what I said is that "I don't give up that easy and I will chase it until it works". This boat is weighs the same as my 24 skater so I had two choices:
old school twins or a big displacement torque monster single either of which I wanted to run on common pump fuel-
The performance outboard world is just getting started and this is verified by several people that own or have owned I/Os and new outboard technology. This is an interesting read and the video on post #11; https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/general-boating-discussion/370039-mid-size-cats-450rs-vs-700scis.html (https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/general-boating-discussion/370039-mid-size-cats-450rs-vs-700scis.html)

Indiana is a long way to go to just have a discount auto parts down spout installed ..
And yes you did say you were going to 'stick with it" .. However you made it clear that you were having head and cam work done. I was kind of proud of you for taking a step to be a leader instead of a follower .. now you state .. you said no such thing .. let alone doing it ... Perhaps calling it a lie was a little harsh. In this day and age I'll rephrase ... a bit of a mistruth ..better ?
Sorry, not my style ... it was a ****** ******* lie ... :p :D
Intake structure, head and cam changes mainly-a little different exhaust note too. We will see how it runs if I ever get the boat back from the interior shop. Its going to be on my LCB and my goal is 100 every time out with 4 people and fuel --"might be a tall order but time will tell".

Apparently you don't get what sticking with it means (IT WILL RUN NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES). I have many things in play right now with three different parties involved and you are not one of them so I don't know where you come off with your claims of what I am or am not doing (you have no clue). Hull modifications, Cams, pistons, and head work will be part of the equation if and as it is needed, variable valve timing and complete mapping hardware is also something that may end up being added to this platform "again, I am glad that Mercury offered us something new that has huge additional potential Vs. the dead end that we were at since 2001 with high performance outboards". I promise it will keep up with traffic, (even with twin Motions), run on fuel that is readily available, get decent fuel economy so we can go over a 100 miles a leg, be dependable and sound badass doing it. When all is said and done you are welcome to bring your boat up to follow or ride the drivers seat of mine. It will be a leader when we get it all sorted out and determine just how far we need to go in order to make it one.
The tailpipe was installed at Porta Products less then a mile from my house "Indiana handles pieces that are a little more complex then that but I am sure you will do something better then them before my stuff is in hand". Looking forward to seeing you back on the water instead of the screen at some point.

You must have heard that I was out drinking last night to? anything else that you can tell me about what I am doing? funny I didn't even see you when I was in Indiana on my most recent road trip 14 days ago-where else did I visit pertaining to this project on that trip? News flash: you are out of the loop on this project and will be chasing porkchops in the near future if you are able to make it. The professor has not touched anything as of yet on this one either. Again, you don't know so don't try to speculate-just get your holes filled for another attempt to manage air/fuel and see if it will make a two hundred mile lunch or dinner trip with us.
Remember when, the 300X was great, guys spent years converting 3L blocks to X wannabes (they were the leaders of that era), it took a big block to be fast, you needed higher octane to make power, C3 corvettes where the less then 200 hp production hodrod of the day, we had NHRA running a full quarter mile, KZ900s, GS1100/1150, H2s were considered fast street bikes, all of this is history, long in the past and some is classified as antique- Today's world is able to tell us via advanced software what a specific displacement engine configuration assembled with a specific group of parts will make for horsepower and torque at a specific rpm and the guess work is gone. The only remaining questions are how much you want to spend, how much power you want to make, and which link is going to break first if you make too much. Today's outboard world is no longer capped at 370 hp modified X or XS that eat 25 dollar a gallon oil and take home brew additives or expensive octane booster to run. There is a new "more precise" way to get to the finish line along with a fast growing group of enthusiast to support it.
Headed to the water now to run with Kory and the boys

You obviously know more then I do about what I have going on. Bottom line is that these are great times for performance outboard enthusiast that have new found capabilities thanks to Mercury Racings release of the 4.6 platform. Scott never touched either motor and yes parts were worked on and parts were machined in his building but he has several employees and tenants within that are very capable and have done a great job. I am in the process of building my new boat which I am sure you are up to speed on. These motors and the development of them will be for whats coming more then for the two LCB projects that are now in hand.
As for the bikes, a modern street legal turbo big block with a 10" over arm will kill what we used to think was fast -stock 600s are running 10 second quarter miles. I spent lots of money with George Bryce to build the performance of a current showroom bike (he always had an update to be done 60 days later due to research on the bench) now the research is done with predictive analytics and key stroke input- times have changed and they aren't going back. Old stuff is fun to talk about and reminisce over but if you are interested in covering miles and seeing the things that I am, there is nothing better then whats out there today.
We had a great run again today with 4 new four strokes in our group. We lost one 2.5 yesterday and had one on the rope last Friday as well so I am getting used to being the tow guy- "if you need it, we have you covered"-we will also be able to spare enough fuel between us to get you where you need to go (bring plenty of home brew as we are all running Rec 90"--bring whatever oil you need to, we are running 25W 50 synthetic.
"Surely you have pics of your "Indy" motors .. I know it's top secret .. LMAO"--I can get them from you when the stuff is done. You will surely know before I do-
Outlaw bikes are all but done-- Pro Street class will be more successful than Outlaw is because the Pro Street bikes are more cutting edge and use the modern Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki ZX-14 engines. Most Outlaw bikes utilized the popular but outdated Suzuki GS motor, which flourished in the 1980s. “The combinations that were going fast in Outlaw were the old school nitrous bikes. Nobody anymore is really interested in the GS platforms. If you look at the sport of motorcycle drag racing as a whole, it’s all about these 1000s and Busas, “We watched the crowd reaction at our WPGC Bike Fest last summer. Pro Street (which was competing as an exhibition class) got the most excitement and interest from the fans. It was crystal clear. The Outlaws were just a tick quicker than the Pro Street bikes without any real street appeal.”
Joe
One of Scott's employees .. in his building .. with his tools .. yea OK . I'll bet if there was an issue ... you wouldn't run to "an employee"
Watch a PDRA race or two . Man Cup series ... OutLaw ~ Pro Street .. same thing .
Sure they have have a class for the slower bikes.. but anything that says Pro or Outlaw will be mostly GS or KZ based . :smiletest:
Octane booster ... I usually carry 2 gallons . Enough for a 2 ~ 3 day weekend . Ohhh geez where could I possibly store another gallon ... On a 25' boat .. LMAO :D
All them .. few 300R motors, I'll bet in a few years Kory will wish you used that money to help him get into a nice place of his own ... :(
Got rope ... you'll need it to see speeds comparable to a 300x ;)
As far as needing a tow, I pull em two at a time ...

Charlie,
I will always view you as a friend "no exceptions". Your thoughts and negative talk about Mercury racing and their new products (the only company that supplies us new power for what we love to do) is what I can't relate to and don't understand. You are welcome to ride, run, borrow, or what ever, any of my boats. As for Kory, he will be fine you can bet on it. As for me, I am going to see and do as much as I can related to what I enjoy as long as I can do it. It has become very apparent to me that lifes finish line comes way too fast for many and I want to see as much of the track (with friends and family) as possible before I get there. The vast majority of my friends are involved in the same hobbies that I am and so on we go with boats, motorcycles, and snowmobiles. Please let me know if the guys get my hard parts before I get back from vacation.
I like the picture of the super boat towing. I was referring to the big slug motors for my gesture.

I consider you like my little brother .. that's why I give you so much **** . :D
I see you haven't been given the speech yet .
When Brandon was little ... he had every Play-station / game they ever made.
He tasted gasoline , has had three different (Jr. Dragsters) race cars and loved racing in just about every state this side of the Mississippi from 11 to 17 years old.
Bout the time he tasted lip-stick ... him and I built a Corvette with a 10:1 / 406 ci / hyd. roller / loose converter / 3.73's / and threw him the keys when it was done and he had a license in hand @ 16 .
Somewhere in there I gave him my Snook Slayin Jon boat. It only had a 6 hp motor .. so he used it once, instead of exploring the shallows.
The speech : I guess I was the only one who didn't know that dad is sposta pay for car insurance / health insurance / gas money / food and clothing until said child reach's 25 years of age ...
And BTW , dad , I had a great time hangin out with you , you taught me a trade i could fall back on if I had to , but I wish you would have pulled back on the fun a little and gave me the money now that I'm married and looking to buy a house .. :o
Maybe in not so many words .. but your speech is coming .. :)
Yes , the mothership, is the only mfg who makes hi-po parts . With no competition, they are free to charge whatever they want for motors and parts.
Plastic side wear pads ... $150
300 PM O-ring kit for the laser type injection .... $400
Simple gasket ... $100 ea.
Outboard motors ... $50,000
I bet they sit in board rooms and laugh , I'll bet you lunch, someone is stupid enough to pay our prices .... F'in boat junkies .. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA ... all the way to the bank.
When I grill the Merc men (I'm easy on you compared to them) all they can muster is a .. I guess it's cuz we can. If you want to carry around a jug of KY jelly, be my guest ... me, I'll hold my position and rebuild used stuff .
The 300snootR , was sposta be the bad dog .. The one you called me out with .. ;)
But if the reality check is that , it's still in the dream works stage ... I understand, you just got caught up in the moment ... :D
Enjoy your vacation ... I'll watch the mail box for ya ... Pppfffttttttttt :nonod:

The problem is Merc has no competition in the hi-performance end of the business & can charge whatever they want!
That is not a problem. The problem WOULD BE if they stopped offering better and better stuff. Everything comes down in price on the used market as the product and the technology that created it ages. So there is absolutely nothing to complain about "you either make it yourself, buy another product, or get out of the game". I like cars but it is unrealistic for me to complain about parts or cost for a new GT3RS. I either go to a used car that I can afford now, I wait until the 3RS comes down in price and buy a used one, or I buy another brand that is lower level (typically) then what I really wanted; or I get out of the game. I don't look down at them or badmouth them for making the best product for my application and say they shouldn't charge that much (I have options). This is still a free enterprise system (at this point) and if things are truly overpriced then the system will correct it with lack of sales or create competitors that will take advantage of the open financial opportunity.
There was never an outboard platform offered to anyone that has the potential that the new large displacement 4 strokes do. CRT is the only other one that is claiming a motor close in power output and they are more money, no warranty, limited availability, and consequently have very few sales (basic free enterprise system at work and proving results)--Hats off to Mercury Racing for continued investing, continued improvement, and filling the desires of their performance oriented customer base.

Not to derail this thread and I would like to hear how the LCB is doing but their was a liberator 25 with a single 400r for sale last year and supposedly it ran well, like upper 90s. Those are basically a 24 skater copy with a very small pod.

Wow....that thing is sick!
Any updates on this boat? Performance numbers? Was the outboard modified with that exhaust or is that just the exhaust option mercury has with a pipe added to it?
Boat looks great!

Joe has it up to 117 as far as I know, the exhaust is a mod done by Coby Harrison from Power Sports Unlimited.
