So over the winter I wanna rebuild with new bushings and seals or whatever it takes. What kinda job is this for the 1st timer and any special tools? Also is there a kit you buy or piece by piece?

It's not falling apart or nething but does have little play in steering tube I wanna tighten up, I dnt believe the normal fisherman or recreational boater ever greases the fittings in clamp areas.

My trim ram is fine. It dosent leak or leak down. I guess it's mainly brushing n steering tube?

I have plenty of used stuff.... if yours is sloppy.....They get sloppy if side thrust from Jacked running.... I put a thrust plate to take the sideload. I think Merc did too....

I would think that the shaft would have to be replaced since it would need to be longer because of the way he notches the shaft for the yoke to sit in....Might have to do that to my 200..

You use your own steering arm so you need to send steering arm to Chaz, who did mine.

I should had named thread steering tube rebuild since it actually has nothin to do with clamp I rekon, I had spoke Chaz briefly and he will have to have the tube and lower yoke but also needs b n decent shape and not run dry(grease)

The threaded section is added to the swivel pin. The yoke is machined to accept the cup which fits over the stock single clip or double spiro-locks. Personally, I don't use either one on my boat anymore. I just tighten the jam nut until the motor won't turn. Then back it off one or two flats. Just as you would do an axle nut.
It acts as a steering damper by keeping the lower yoke, can and swivel bracket secure. Instead of relying on a wave washer for preload ... ;)

Great idea!

Any more pictures?

Over here some just weld the yoke to the steering pin.
