Hey all! Just wanted to send a hello and looking forward to leaning on ya'll for advice.
My son Zach and I just started a little voodoo project. Hes 12 and bought the hull on his own. I'll help him with a little motor and we will work on it together!

Down town Severn Bridge lol. Your from Gravenhurst I see? We just found a nice little 30 Yamaha. I think that would make a great start?!
I've seen one around me with a 40 maybe a 50 Yamaha can't remember, seemed to run well. Calm days.

Gawd, I'm easing my daughter into the sport too....with a 115 on a 16' Sidewinder
Those boats can get tricky I heard. Over 55-60 it demands a good driver. 115 probably won't get you there.

Sidewinders are evil, I've had 2! The 115 will push it to right around 50. I had a 235 OMC on it for a while, it ran a best of 76 mph GPS.

Welcome aboard! You'll find a lot of support in your area for that boat, a lot of families from Gravenhurst and 6 mile lake run similar boats. Get a few years experience under his belt and sign him up for racing with OPBRA!

Good luck with the build. A 15" 2 cylinder 50 Rude would be good on it

I Hope he has lots of fun with it. They are a great starter boat to learn how to drive a v-bottom hull. My son started out with the same hull when he was 12. Since you are allowed to operate up to a 40hp motor until age 16 ours had a merc 40 4 cylinder 2 stroke. It was a good package. I still have the chopper prop that used to run into the 50's on it. Hopefully he can keep saving his money to upgrade to a Tuff 16 when he turns 16 and then perhaps a Tuff 21 or 24 down the road.
i Don’t post much but I have 12 and 13 year old boys and I just picked up a delta for them. I put a 50 Yamaha from Top gun marine on it. It is a great way for them to learn. I sit in the boat with them to teach them how to drive. Even with the two of us we are hitting 50 mph.
I actually looked at the boat you bought but went the delta route instead.
If I could figure out how to post a picture from my phone i would
