Finally got to spin up my 2002 Merc. 150 Saltwater to WOT. I just had the 14 x 19 3-blade SS rehubbed after starting to spin the hub two weeks ago. I was able to get 5200 RPM and a top end of 44 mph on the GPS and 47 kts on the fishfinder paddlewheel (that didn't seem right though). The boat is a 2000 lb. Grady White center console fishing machine, had 30 gallons of fuel on board, myself (180 lbs.) and minimal gear. I would guess total weight of about 3300 lbs. The 5200 seemed low but is still within the max rpm range at WOT.

This is the same prop. I was turning to 5300 on my '85 Merc. 150 last summer. I figured the new, larger displacement 2.5 motor would be able to spin the prop faster than 2.0 motor??? There was no indication of the hub slipping last year. Was I wrong to make such an assumption?

How do I go about checking to make sure my tach is accurate?

I also have a 14 x 17 3-blade SS that I think I'll have to do some testing with. I usually run w/ the load mentioned above.

Thanks.

Brian

If the 17 pitch proves to give me the 5600 WOT that the motor can turn, would it be better for the engine to use it all the time over the 19 pitch?

How to check if your tach is accurate:

Go see the thread "Tach test setup" in the Technical Discussion from last week maybe. Started by Bill Rogers.
